CACHE is located in the eastern portion of Ridgway State Park (Ouray County, CO) along a well-established wagon road, open to 4WD vehicles, horses, hikers, and bicyclers. Situated near a historic gravel mine and geographic survey disc, cache location offers a spectacular 360 degree view of the Uncompahgre Plateau, Ridgway Reservoir, San Juan Mountain Range, the Cimarron Range, and Turret Ridge.
SAN JUAN OVERLOOK ROAD: access requires a valid Colorado State Parks pass which can be purchased at one of the three main entrances to the State Park. The overlook road is a loop with both north and south access gates off of the EAST SIDE of Highway 550 South (the north gate is close to the park's Dutch Charlie entrance and the south gate is near the park's Dallas Creek entrance). Look for State Park signage on the access gates to ensure you are not tresspassing on private property. San Juan Overlook Road is open to Jeeps (4WD), horses, hikers, and bicyclers. Road is NOT recommended for low-clearange or non-4WD vehicles. IT is NOT OPEN to motorbikes, dirtbikes, ATVs or snowmobiles.

SPECIAL NOTE: PLEASE BE ALERT during hunting season as portions of THIS AREA of the park is open to hunters!! NOT RECOMMENDED during the various hunting seasons!!

CACHE LOCATION: Overlooking a historic gravel mine, cache is close to an undated Bureau of Reclamation survey disc. While cache is in an easy and obvious location, the views from the site are well worth the trek. If you go by 4WD you can drive to within a few dozen feet of the cache (though please don't block the road when parking). BRING YOUR CAMERA FOR THE SPECTACULAR 360 degree VIEWS!! Be sure to go the few extra steps uphill to see the neat geographic survey marker!

CACHE CONTAINER: Container is a small sized (about 6" x 8" x 2") clear plastic cube by Lock'n'Lock, air & water tight, with room for small items & small TBs. PLEASE RE-HIDE THE CACHE CAREFULLY and watch for muggles. Enjoy the fantastic views!

Wonderful view. Worth the hike just for that. Nearly missed the cache, even though I was nearly standing on it.

Left a Minnesota Geocache card.

Owner Maintenance 06/30/2018 By TwoOldBears
Replaced cache container & new log book, replaced pencil & sharpener, removed all previous cache contents & added twelve brand new "treasures" suitable for children & families to trade (for the twelve years this cache has been in place!) Enjoy the wonderful views! Friends: please do not place any foods, mints, or other highly-scented items in this cache because those things will attract animals and insects. Thank you!

Back to our wedding spot. Still one of our favorite caches. Needs a new container and log. Lid is broken and critters have been eating the log, presumably for their nests
