North of Alma, CO off of Highway 9. The climb to the cache is over a fairly steep side of a mountain.
This Cache is not for the week at heart. This is a fairly steep climb to an ex-mine shaft entrance. You are looking for a plastic margarine container placed in the crouch of a tall bristle cone pine tree directly out from the original mine entrance. Please return the container as you found it. Original contents include: Small blue plastic toy car; wooden coin good for $1 off at the MOAB, UT brewerly; Ping Pong Ball; 2 dimes; and a log book. Please bring your own pen/pencil.
Park along Highway 9 at: N39.38.724 W106.03.590 in a parking area. Be careful crossing Highway 9.
While in the area also visit cache: "Muesli" (C183CD).

On our way to GC18 IXE 13 pointed out this rare D/T cache to me. Of course we had to stop and at least give it a try!
The climb was not easy with the amount of snow still on the ground but we made it up there and found the cache!
Thaks for the fun and the cache!

Found with my uncle, benj59, back in October, 2018. I have my own account now and I'm catching up on some logs. He's helping me write them. :) This was a long hike for me in the snow, but it was fun!

This is benj59 - I attest that tomorrowat7 absolutely came all the way to the cache and his name is on the log! It was actually here that he came up with his geonick!! Great cache.

My family and I had a nice getaway trip to Fairplay for three nights this week. This included my parents, my brother and his wife and kids and my wife and kids. I had been really looking forward to this trip as I had anticipated getting my 2000th find and some other good caches in the area. Wednesday was a little too cold for everyone, but today was perfect! Beautiful blue skies and temperate fall weather made for great conditions for family geocaching.

This was the third of 7 we found on the day!

After getting my 2000th and 2001st earlier in the day, we ate lunch and rested. Some naps were taken but there was a general consensus that some of us wanted to do something more challenging. Of the 11 of us on the trip, I am the most serious geocacher with my 7 year old nephew just starting to get into it. But my brother and his wife enjoy adventures and even my parents were up for the challenge of tackling this one.

I had spotted this one while planning for the trip. I need a 4.5/4.5 for my D/T grid and although there is a mystery not too far from me now, it's always more fun to get some of these higher D/Ts on a traditional.

We were up in Fairplay last year and I remember driving with my mom to Breck and thinking about this climb. I knew it wasn't going to be easy but I was excited and geared up for it. The snow was deep in some spots - maybe up to a foot at the most. But in some ways, I think that actually helped the climb. It certainly made it a little more interesting!

Of the 7 of us that started the trek, 6 of us made it all the way to GZ! My mom decided not to keep pushing after about a third of the way, but my dad, in his late 60s, made it all the way!

We couldn't see the mine shaft directly because the area was covered with snow, but it was apparent that the cutaway in the mountain was man-made.

The hide itself wasn't all that difficult, and the container and log are in great shape and protected from the snow. Only four more to go until I've completed the D/T grid!

Thanks for the hide pnbtravelers. I appreciate you keeping this cache active for everyone to enjoy.

55Connie and I parked at the designated area and looked for an old road or trail to the mine. Finding no trail/road we pushed our way uphill to GZ. We had come equiped with a new container, having read previous logs. The log book in the cache was still usable so we placed it in a plastic bag to help it through the winter. Good hide in a great area. TFTC.
