Ringtails do live in Colorado though I have never seen one. This is probably because they are nocturnal animals that are very secretive and rarely seen by anyone. These animals are commonly called ringtail cats but they are not cats. In fact, they are more related to raccoons. They have a fox-like face and a ringed tail like a raccoon. Their tails are much longer than a raccoon’s however. The tail has alternating bands of white and black fur. They have large eyes surrounded by white rings of fur, large rounded ears, short legs and a long grayish colored body.
Ringtails have large eyes that help them to see well at night. They are agile animals with sharp claws that enable them to climb trees and scale walls. These omnivores will eat fruit, berries, small animals, bats, birds, insects, acorns, insects, lizards, snakes, squirrels, birds and bird eggs.
Tracks show five toes on the front foot and five toes on the hind foot. Claws do not usually show in the tracks. These are small animals – only 1 to 2 pounds. They grow to about 2 feet long including the tail.
Ringtails can be found in Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, eastern Kansas, Baja California, northern Mexico and Colorado.
It is quite possible that there are ringtails in the area where this cache is hidden. But you probably won’t see one without being there at night with night vision equipment!
This cache is a rehide of an archived cache of mine called Waterton Side Trail #6. I archived it since Waterton Canyon was being closed for a lengthy amount of time.
Elevation at the cache is 7760 feet.
The parking fee here is $6 (2017) if you park in the lot. Or, you can park for free along the road.
It is uphill from Indian Creek Trail 800. It is on one of the routes you can take to the Ringtail Trail. Rocks are an ammo can's friend.

10/21/2017 By wildkatco Today was a community day at the Indian Park Schoolhouse with local musicians and wares from local artisans for sale. Since it was also a beautiful day, and before we refueled at the schoolhouse, we headed beyond the schoolhouse to pick up a couple of caches that we hadn't found yet near the Indian Creek trailhead. It was also race day at Indian Creek, but the trails were not very busy despite the number of cars in the parking lot. That might have had something to do with courses from 25 to 53 miles in length. We found this one without any problem. The cache and log are in great shape. Took nothing, left geocaching bracelet, signed log. Thanks for placing this cache so that we can play!

06/20/2017 By Odyssey325 Looks like it's been over a year since the last log post! Glad it was still there.
05/24/2016 By Bhob Teamed up with "nerak2001" and "animjason" to do the skull rock geocache series - we stopped to get this one on our way back home. TN-LN-SL. Thanks !
05/24/2016 By nerak2001 We were all a little tired after hiking all over Skull Mountain for the caches there, but this one became a lot easier once we found the trail. Thanks for the hide and view!
