At the Skyline Drive Dinosaur Trackway Site, you can see a series of Cretaceous Ankylosaur tracks made by a group of dinosaurs walking side-by-side through mud. Located along Cañon City’s famous Skyline Drive, you can drive to within a few feet and even get out and touch the footprints. There are other dinosaur footprints in the area, but as far as I know these are the only ones you can drive right up to.

Skyline Drive is a narrow, steep, winding one-way road with steep drop offs and spectacular views. The road is paved, but if you are not comfortable driving on this type of road do not attempt this. For those in good physical condition you can hike up from several different trailheads in Cañon City.

The cache is above the footprints, but there is no need to climb up the cliff. From the parking waypoint take the much easier route to the cache. Follow the Dakota Ridge Trail a short distance to the cache. There is no need to go close to the edge, but please keep a close watch on the younger kids. You will have to be careful of loose rocks, cactus, and the other usual Colorado hazards.

Skyline Drive is closed to motor vehicles at night and during inclement weather. The area is closed to all uses from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Be sure to also log the Earthcache at this same site.

Loved finding this cache after finding the fossils. The climb up the trail is easy, but it's still a little intimidating looking for the cache. Lots of hidey holes to look in, and be careful maneuvering around! Found the cache and signed the log.

Beautiful scenery, a nice little walk up to it, I circled it once and it was a little bit tricky because of all the loose rocks

We are on our way back home from the Royal Gorge Bridge and thought it would be a good time to introduce my in-laws to geocaching. TFTC

I stopped and checked on this cache today. It is in good condition and waiting patiently to be found. I swapped trackables. Cache on!

We are visiting my family here in Cañon and I wanted my granddaughter to see the dinosaur footprints- I’ve seen them dozens of times, but it’s still a thrill. Dropped off a TB. TFTC

I went on a routine maintenance run this morning and checked on several of my caches on Skyline Drive. This one was in a different spot than I had originally hidden it in, but I decided it was just as good so I left it there. I dropped off a travel bug, Red Colorado 4x4, who just wants to travel from cache to cache.
