Point 10165, or "Gold Flake Peak" as denoted on the summit register log, is a ranked summit (>300' of topographic prominence) in southeastern Teller County on Pike National Forest.

With the summit sitting only a short distance from Gold Camp Road, this peak makes for a relatively quick hike from the road with the biggest obstacles being hiking over downed trees. The cache is hidden on a false summit a short ways to the south of the true summit, which hosts a gold tin for a summit register and a log dating back to 2005 that was established by Mr. Mike Garratt. I hiked up the "south ridge" route and have provided an additional waypoint for where I parked; from what I have read, there is some parking further up Gold Camp Road to the north that allows one to hike up the "north ridge" route.

Please place the cache back as you found it and enjoy the views! FTF prize is a vein sample containing argentiferous galena, chalcopyrite, and quartz from Silver Lake Basin near Silverton, CO.

Tom.dog where have you been? We've missed these off-trail summit hikes into places that few have gone. Trying to figure out if you got your degree in geology. Not my favorite drive....particularly on a long weekend. But there were a few other caches we needed to do as well. As Ernie said we came up from the north side and were able to spot the summit log. Thank you for a fun day.

Old Stage Road on the 4th of July weekend?! The traffic thinned out past St. Peter’s Dome so the drive actually wasn’t that bad. Estes01and I decided to try the north ridge approach since there is a little less elevation gain. We parked at N 38 43.738, W 105 00.541 and hiked up to the ridge top along an old road that started 100 feet down Elk Ranch Road and then followed the ridge on up. On this route, there were only a few short sections with lots of logs to step over. We were feeling the 10,000-foot elevation, though. Gotta get back in shape for 14er season! Great view from the cache! Left 2 trackables, TFTC!

FTF!
It looked like the rain was going to hold off for a couple of hours this morning, so I headed up Old Stage Road.

The fog was thick so the going was slow, nice to have the road to myself.

The hillside was damp enough so it was a very quiet hike.

I got the log out and signed and the fog turned to a down pour.

I was able to keep the inside of the container and contents dry, I grabbed the TB’s and prize and beat feet back to parking.

Thanks for a fun cache to hunt for!
