The Como Depot and Hotel were the hub of railroad activity in Como when the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad came to town in 1879. The route to Boreas Pass was added a few years later and the largest roundhouse on the line was located nearby. The Depot (the smaller wood structure) was constructed around 1880 next to the Gilman (and later, Pacific) Hotel. The hotel was lost in a fire in 1896 and the current hotel was built the following year. The final train ran through Como in 1937 and the town fell into decline. Both of these buildings, along with the Como Roundhouse, are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and restoration projects are ongoing to preserve these important historic buildings.

The Como Hotel is easy to spot in the small community of Como. Park at the hotel and walk over to the cache.
