The Gold Dust Trail leads you from the historic railroad town of Como to an area of the Pike National Forest that is full of mining history. The trail is marked by blue diamonds along its route and is a popular skiing and snowshoeing route in the winter. Scattered along the trail you will find remnants of the miners that once called this area home, including artifacts and historic cabins. For those more interested in nature, this trail offers secret meadows, meandering creeks, and scenic views.

Little Baldy Mountain near the Gold Dust Trail

From Como, drive along County Road 33 until it turns into Forest Service Road 50. After approximately one mile you will reach the Gold Dust Trailhead. Park on the road and follow the trail south over the creek until the blue diamonds appear to guide your way. Stay on the trail until you reach the suggested waypoint, then head straight for the cache. To the south you will see some historic cabins but please remain on Forest Service land and do not approach them.

Headed up into the mountains today to enjoy the last bits of summer and see if the leaves are starting to turn. (They are!) A friend of mine has been interested in learning more about geocaching for a while so we headed out for some fun today. I put together a plan for the day, but then I made a wrong turn and we wound up here. No worries, saw these lonely caches nearby and we changed our plan. Put on our boots, threw some water and snacks in the backpack and we were off. We found the cache at the trailhead and the three a little north of here. When we got back to the car we decided we had enough energy to head for this one, too. I'm glad we did, because the aspens, the creeks, the mountains... just beautiful. I wonder what these little creeks look like when there's runoff from the snow. Anyhoo, we found the cache without incident and I remembered to take a picture of the code. We timed our hikes perfectly today - my legs were just starting to feel it when we got back to the car. I know it's just a little bit out of the way, but I'm really surprised this one hasn't been found in almost a year. Thanks for the cache! Find #2772.

I got 3 CSP caches today. everything was quiet on the Gold Dust trail today, but it looks like it could be pretty busy with bikers on the weekends based on how the ground is churned up. Very different from when we rode this trail about 10 years ago.
