This was not the trail I intended to take but since I'm here and there are caches here, well I guess I might as well find them.

I'm so glad I kept following this trail! On the way, I passed a white-tailed ptarmigan!!! She was near the trail and seemed surprised to see me, or wondering why a beast would chose to trudge along instead of fly over the peaks and valleys. I wanted to get a photo, but when I moved my camera up, she ran behind a stump and peaked at me, and then ran to the next tree. Good instincts! I dont want the Elmer Fudds to get her.
Someone had signed the logbook in may that had accidentally found the cache. I tried to add a little more camo to the cache to make it harder for casual muggles to spot. The clue should still make it an easy find.

It was a beautiful morning for a hike, so we decided to explore the scenic trails west of Palmer Lake. We hiked up from the lower reservoir to get the Sundance Mountain cache first, then continued west aong the "Backwoods Trail" until we got to the the Bearing Tree cache. We didn't go after the Backwoods #1 cache since it had a few recent DNFs by experienced cachers. The trails were snowpacked and icy so we were thankful that we had brought along our trekking poles. All containers and logs were in great shape. Thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining these caches.

Mrs Av8r told me to go play outside today and stop being a pest. So I decided to pester some of the caches around Sundance.
Even better: I didn't see anyone else once I left the service road!
What a great day to hike, cache, and just play outside. TFTC!!!
