"Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home."

Yes, it is up there!
Yes, there is a safe way to get there.
No, it's not easy.

Sometimes you see a spot and wonder if you can get there from here.  It turned out to be possible and even fun so I left a cache for others to find.  It's not a dangerous hike but there is a lot of "UP". I'll give you the coords for the trailhead I used but the rest is up to you.  If you find yourself wishing for a rope you are doing it wrong.  There is a spoiler photo if you need it.

There are some interestingly twisted pine trees near the cache.

Congratulations to ernie66 for the early morning FTF!

That was an adventure today. I picked a good day to get another difficulty/terrain I didn’t have before. Hiked the whole ridge and found 6 with my caching buddy. TFTC

Not much of a rock climber so I took the "easy" way to the cache. Nice views from up here. TFTC.

Found this one on day 2,327 of my current geocaching streak. Since I came off the CDT last year, I really haven’t returned to the mountains. In that time both my fitness level, mind and log writing skills have turned to mush while I’ve digested all of the 1.5s/1.5s caches to keep my streak going. I’ve finally decided it is time to get back on the trail. I cleared this area of all of the caches I was interested in back in 2013, but like vegetation, new ones have grown back. I decided this “new” (to me) cluster (GC7025Y Amazing Grace, GC6ZBY4 Easter in January, GC6ZNHX Inside the Loop, GC6ZNHR High Above Hunters Run, GC1413R Bark, GC6ZD4R High Above High Drive) placed by the usual suspects seemed like a perfect warm up hike.

I decided to come after this cache first, because it makes perfect sense to do the highest rated terrain cache (presumably the hardest) first on a warm up hike. I started on the suggested trailhead. I found the trailhead okay, but not sure I could find the trail. Fortunately I was able to terrain associate my way to near the GZ and get a first look at what was in store. Upon seeing something that reminded me of Pont Du Hoc, I offered a few “choice words” of thanks to the CO for the cool terrain to negotiate. Since a front assault was out of the question, I went to work to find an assailable flank. I was pleased that very quickly the terrain gave way and I found a way to get to behind and above the GZ. At GZ I saw what looked like a nature hiding spot, but followed my GPS instead. It took some time for me to find the cache because the knucklehead that was carrying my pack for me dropped it off almost literally right on top of the cache. I finally checked UNDER my pack, and made the find. John Denver’s Rocky Mountain High came up on my playlist while I was looking, so the atmospherics were pretty good. After so many 1.5s to maintain my streak, I was glad to add the rating for this cache. Although I’m not sure I deserved it, I took a victory photo because it has been so long since I took one. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

For several weeks icezebra11 and I have talked about getting out together for a day of cache-finding. Today it happened; we drove down from northern Colorado and had a great time hunting down caches in the hills above Manitou Springs! We started the day on the Red Mountain trail and ended with a long hike on the Section 16 trail system. We found some great caches, took in a brief afternoon rain spatter and hail flurry, and had a fun, memorable day together. Each of the caches was hidden in a marvelous location, and some required a bit of dedicated work to reach them. All-in-all, a super day of geocaching. Thanks to each of the cache owners for hiding and maintaining the caches we found!

This was a cache we were really counting on to cap off our fun day, and we found it in style despite the weather. I won't recount the details, as Brad has written a fine description. Suffice to summarize by indicating it was another great WingsAndTales cache, as all of them seem to be! It rightfully earns a Favorite point. Thanks fo it, Karen!

A couple weeks ago Denali41 and I made plans to travel south today to the Pike's Peak/Colorado Springs area to go after a bunch of caches, starting at the top of the peak and working our way back down the mountain toward CS. Last night I texted my son who lives in the Springs that we'd be there today and asked if he wanted to hike with us in the Devil's Playground area. He said "good luck" because the Hill Climb was happening today. So we had to alter our plan to eliminate all the caches above the toll booth. We still had a full day of caching, as we fully expected we wouldn't be able to get to all the caches on the target list, even without the caches on PP.

After making a nice hike to Redstone Castle we headed for Sec. 16 Open Space. We had quite a few caches targeted both high and low and we decided to go high first, hoping to get as far as Third Stone from the Sun. But after logging One Clover Over the weather started moving in so we headed back down the trail to the parking area. Just as we reached the truck it began to rain. But we really wanted to get this cache so we waited a while and it stopped. We grabbed our packs and headed up the trail, hoping we'd find the "easy" route. Well judging by the all of the terrain we saw, I'd say we were successful. It was steep and loose but we at least didn't have to bushwhack through the oak brush. Just a little before we got to the ridge it began to rain again and this time there was a bit of lightning and thunder. But we were so close we kept going and made it to GZ. Thanks to the spoiler picture it was a quick find. But we were quickly getting pretty wet so we signed the log, took a couple pics, and headed back down. just after we got off the ridge and into the gully the hail started coming down. We had wanted to continue up as high as Inside the Loop but the weather wasn't going to cooperate so we headed to back to the truck and called it a day.

Thanks for placing this cache Karen, we enjoyed the steep hike and the views at the site are fantastic!!!

...moving on to a third device to try & get logs in ...
Well now that we're home from latest visit I'll get my logs straight.
I had a super hike around Sec16; Thanks for the waypoints that hi-lited yet another Springs trail I would have never seen. I've done the traditional loop many times, but never had a clue about this.
Left a TB that fit; I can't remember if there had been one to actually trade here...??

This my warm up hike and was it worth every T rating! Legs like rubber! All looks good up here. Took one travel bug. Wonder if that's my plane off this mountain?

Thanks for the great cache!

I've had this one on my short list since it published. I love the area and the challenge presented was irresistible. Kerewin0430 was in town for just one day before having to head out of town again but was at a milestone point and asked if I had any ideas on a good cache. I was eager to suggest this and ask if she would like company to get it!

What a great day! The weather was perfect! We took the hard way up, direct and through the scrub oak. The little critters did great! Jude is turning into a great hiker and little mountain goat! Once at the top I spotted the cache quickly. We signed and stamped the log and swapped out TB's. Replaced as found.

From here we all enjoyed the view and snapped some pictures. What an amazing view! I scoped out the area below and realized we took the hard way as I spotted the easy way down... Figures... I had the pleasure of teaching the kids how to Scree Ski! They were laughing and had a great time.

Happy Veterans Day to all who have served! Including Kerewin0430! Thanks also for letting us tag along on this fun little hike!
