This is number 15 in a series of historical points within Douglas County Colorado.

Foremost among the families of Parker was the family of James S. Parker. He was the fourth of seven children and was born in Illinois in 1841. After serving in the Civil War with Company A of the 22nd Illinois, he married Mattie and settled in Kiowa. His brother, George, had already squatted on some land a little west of 20-mile house and built a cabin/saloon on the north side of Main Street. James joined George in Pine Grove (Parker). The two of them did much for the growth of the town of Pine Grove.

James served as postmaster for 27 years, member of first Pine Grove School District Board, county commissioner, justice of the peace, donated the first school house, donated the land for Parker Cemetery, donated right of way for the Denver & New Orleans Railroad, donated a right-of-way to the Colorado Telephone Company, and was a 6th degree Mason. James sold his property in 1910, moved to Denver and died later that year.

It is his grave that the above coordinates point to. Buried next to him is his wife. Look at the nearby headstones and you will see some of the names mentioned in previous Douglas History series.

To claim this geocache email the length of his wife's life. YMD. Photos are fine. JimReeb@ecentral.com

Teammate Gate Keeper and I flew from Calgary, Alberta (Canada) to attend GeoWoodstock XVII.
We left a week before the Mega event with a To Find List of select (special) caches to grab while on our way to Fort Worth, Texas.

At GZ we checked out the area Approve; searched for the answers and took some pictures

Answers have been sent on behalf of our Team so the CO is not inundated with messages.

Not sure if I was meant to but I parked right by GZ...

This spring I've decided to do another epic geocaching trip to pick up some special caches in the United States.

Starting in London, I fly to Seattle, then Denver, then Atlanta, then New York before finally heading back to London.

After arriving from Seattle I drove east and stayed in a dodgy motel in Wray but it meant first thing I could grab a cache in Haigler NEBRASKA. From there I went into KANSAS for the two most important targets - Arikaree and MINGO! The rest of the day was spent targeting regular sized trads and virtuals in OKLAHOMA and NEW MEXICO.

The next morning was focussed in getting JASMER caches and a WEBCAM in COLORADO, with the rest of the day for virtuals and D5 challenge caches.

STATS FOR DENVER:
1x Webcams
27x Virtuals
7x D5 Challenge Caches (3x not qualified yet)
14x Other Caches
5x New States (Nebraska,Kansas,Oklahoma,Colorado,New Mexico)

TOTAL FINDS: 48
TOTAL DNF: 2

TFTC from London England

Next stop - Atlanta to complete my DOUBLE JASMER!

Day 1 of an epic 6 day journey out to the western frontier. I had some vacation time that I needed to burn up by the end of the year, and what better way to use it than to go Geocaching! My main goal was to find caches in New Mexico and Nevada, which would complete my map in the western US. The rest of the 4 remaining states are on the East Coast. Secondary goals were to find oldies, mostly virtuals, and high favorited caches. The only bad part of the trip was that it rained every single day of my vacation.

I headed south out of MN on Sunday and returned home on Friday.
Sunday - Drive all the way through to Colorado (15 hours!)
Monday - Cache in and around Denver and Colorado Springs, with an attempt at Pike's Peak (closed at Mile 14)
Tuesday - Head south towards GC19 and then west through Wolf Creek Pass
Wednesday - Four Corners monument and west towards Nevada
Thursday - After a night in Richfield, UT, head east through the skiing areas of Colorado towards Nebraska
Friday - The long drive home

Thanks to all the cache owners for placing these caches for me to find and for keeping the oldies going all these years.

On a Fall trip through Colorado doing some caching and seeing the sites. A beautiful scenic drive through Rocky Mountain National Park. Visiting the downtown areas of Boulder, Denver, Castle Rock and Colorado Springs to name a few. We enjoyed a beautiful hike on the Barr trail at the Summit of Pikes Peak. It was a wonderful trip with quite a bit of caching thrown in along the way. Another interesting stop along our route. Answer sent.

A fun find with CShare as we toured the Douglas county area, once we figured out how to get to GZ. That took some doing!

We loved the old cemetery and historical plaque, and then found the headstone a bit hard to read due to some serious weathering.

TFTC! Smile

Found today. With JSQuack who is emailing the answers for both of us.
We have just arrived here today from California snd we love to get VIrtuals.
We had a hard time finding our way to GZ as our car Nuvi kept trying to drive us through a gated community. Then we found it ourselves and we drive right up to GZ. Very interesting history here about the Parkers. This gets a Fav from me. TFTVC

Out caching for the day with Colorado GeoDemon. Our goal was to find some more of the virtuals in the Douglas County series, some traditionals, a puzzle or two and do a power trail. When we were finished we had gone 57/58. A gorgeous day to be out caching.

Found the cemetery and the grave. Got the needed information. Answer has been sent.

Thanks for this virtual and sharing the history of Douglas County.
