Merry Christmas !

Glenn (Dad), along with 18 year-old twins Leik (pronounced "Lake") and Erikka placed this ammo can in the woods while getting their Christmas Tree for 2023.

Here is our Christmas Tree for 2023 in the forest:

And here is that same spruce tree in our home, after Erikka decorated it, which she enjoys doing each year.

We live in Colorado, and each year pay a fee to the US Forest Service, get a permit and head off to Pike National Forest to cut down our Christmas tree from designated areas.  Forest health is important, removing smaller trees contributes to the overall well being of the forest and reduces fire danger.  Pike National Forest is named for famed explorer Zebulon Pike, whose name also adorns nearby Pikes Peak which was the inspiration to Katharine Lee Bates who, in 1895, wrote "America the Beautiful".

We hope everyone has a great Holiday Season with friends and family.

We have made a small family tradition of getting our Christmas Tree from the Pike National Forest each year, and placing a geocache at the same time. This is our eighth year of doing so.

The listed waypoint is the trailhead/parking area that has a vault toilet.  From there, the drive to the west is very flat and should be easy for most cars depending on the amount of snow.  Use your best judgement.  There is a pullout where we parked that is within about 75 feet of the hiding spot and the terrain is open and easy.

Congratulations to BrandiniBikini on their first ever FTF !

It was too cold for us to start walking at the official trailhead today. So we decided to drive in. Easy find with accurate coordinates. We exchanged the resident trackables for different ones. Thanks for this fun cache filled to the brim with swag.

The drive up the pass was spectacular around 11am with the sun shining on trees flocked with frost. Although my car could have easily made it to the cache, I decided to park in the large lot and walk the rest of the way. The car thermometer said 14 degrees and it had started to snow lightly. Lots of families out today getting their trees. Also saw a hunter's pickup truck with an elk in the back. Great swag here, as usual! Swapped out two of the trackables and discovered the rest. TFTC!

2TF this morning about 8:30 a.m. Parked and walked. Got to the cache and took my gloves off and realized how cold it was. Surely didn't want to succumb to the elements. It felt like 10 degrees. TN, S/L and tried to be careful how I put all the contents back into the container. Great morning, great walk and great Christmas cache. The 3Williams Kidz were once again successful in finding another Christmas tree and placing a new Christmas cache. Thanks for the hide. Had fun. Gets a FAV.

Happy Holidays! This was my first ever FTF and I couldn’t be more stoked! What more could I ask for, a Christmas themed cache and my first FTF on Black Friday, a day everyone shops for Christmas gifts! Thank you for putting this together, the generous GCCO coin FTF gift, and thank you for sharing your Christmas Tree story! Looking forward to moving the beaver trackable ahead too :) traded a stitch figurine!
