A camo'd plastic jar located in the newly opened Catamount Ranch Teller County open space. NO PENCIL, so bring one! During winter hikes I would suggest your YAK TRAKS, trail is mostly hardpacked snow with some icy spots so they really help! For the summer months, bring water! The terrain and difficulty are on due to the hike. Once there it should be pretty easy to find.
Park at the following trailhead parking lot at N38 deg. 55.523, W105 deg. 05.627. This is at the end of Edlowe Road, a left turn off of HWY 24 heading towards Divide from Woodland Park. Parking/trailhead is easily found. There is a newly placed vault bathroom at the trailhead also. This was a great hike! Trail is very well established so I'm sure people have been hiking it for some time now. Respect the signs for the nearby research center. There is also a new caretaker for the center who we met on the trail. Near the cache at approx. coords N38 deg. 55.063, W105 deg. 06.777 you will find a sign post. The trail forks here, with the branch to the left being the wider trail and the way you need to go for the cache. I would suggest that after you do the cache you head back to this spot (only about 100-120 feet or so) and take the single track trail that heads to the right. Follow this trail to the sign stating "Vayhinger" trail (which BTW we felt way somewhat misleading, since we had passed a sign for this same trail way before the hill heading up to the cache showing that the "Vayhinger" trail was down the slope to the left). But I guess if you think about it you will eventually meet up with the "Vayhinger" trail if you do keep going as it is a loop. We suggest going this way as it seemed to be the easier route to us. To continue the opposite way from the cache location you will be going mostly uphill. Anyway, eventually you will see an old wood sign stating Commstra/Aspen. At this point you want to head to the left towards the Commstra trail (Which BTW we did not see any signs other than this one showing this trail name, or the Aspen trail for that matter). So we don't know where the Aspen trail goes. This is a loop and you will be heading right back to the cache location now, If I remember correctly your GPS should show you are about .46 miles from the cache here. The entire hike was a round trip of only 4.38 miles from the parking area. VERY quiet here and some great views of the North side of Pikes Peak. The scent of pine was heavy in the air too, AHHHHHH my favorite smell! The original poster didn't originally plan to place a cache here, hence the name "After Thought".

This was my first time on this trail, but probably won't be the last! I haven't been doing much caching the last few years, but a recent visit to HQ in Seattle has re-ignited the interest. TFTC!

We were in the area to grab the final to a 10-cache mystery series we have been working on and wanted to enjoy the whole trail by stopping for all of the traditional caches as well. Gorgeous Colorado morning with perfect hiking weather.

We found this cache quickly as we started the clockwise trail loop. We signed the log and replaced the camoed container as we found it. As we were completing the 1.5 mile trail loop, we noticed a pill bottle under a tree about 180 feet away from "After Thought's" GZ. When we investigated, we found inside the chewed up container a log labeled GCZE25 with signatures dating up to 2012. We surmised that this must be this cache's previous container that had been muggled by a small critter. We walked this lost container back to the current container that we had previously found and placed it inside with the other contents. Perhaps the CO can figure out this mystery :O)

Found the cache ok. Not sure what the sign with just the letter R is there for that is near the cache. I did not see any Commstra/Aspen sign on the loop. There was a sign with just a letter A there. I see on the Pikes Peak Atlas map that there is a Aspen trail there off the loop but it looks like it ends at private property. The Vayhinger trail goes down to the Ring The Peak trail. You can make a loop by taking it and then going back up on the Limber Pine Trail that is near the reservoir inlet. TFTC.
