This is between tunnels 7 & 8 on the Shortline.

Unlike some of the other caches in the area, this cache is literally between the two tunnels but not along the roadbed.
It is on a ridge that the railroad had to go around and you will have to bushwhack to get to it.

At one time you could see the railroad bed below between the two tunnels but the trees have grown up and blocked the view.

Suitable for small trackables, and BYOP just in case.

Was here earlier in the spring... grandiose plans to walk down to 'the Dragon' were quickly put down by the amount of snow still lying about. I was grateful for enough cell reception to be encouraged by WnT's log, & quite a bit of circling outward while stick-shoveling finally did the trick.

I haven’t been on Gold Camp Road for quite some time, so it was good to get a chance to return and try to pick up a few caches. I was surprised how crowded the road was, I suppose it is because of the Memorial Day Weekend kick-off. I wanted to give this one a try because it had a good difficulty rating, terrain rating, and looked fun. I humped the ridgeline to this one directly from the GC40XJ7 Tunnel 8 on the Shortline cache because I was too lazy to go back down to the road then regain elevation to find this one. It took me some time to make the find because my GPS started me off the GZ. I searched a pretty wide area, but my geo-senses kept returning me to a certain area; but still I came up empty. Wings and Tales log entry from 2016 was helpful to put me on track, right back to the area my geo-senses originally took me. Snow complicated the search, so I was happy to make the find. As I write this log, I note this one hasn’t been found in 19 months. Good for me because I keep track of lonely cache statistics. With this find, I now have (counting only 1 year or more lonely) a total of 127 years lonely time on 62 caches from 11 North American States & Provinces. Thanks to the CO for placing this nice cache for everyone to find, TFTC.

Was up at Bear Trap Ranch and decided to do some geocaching. Fun Hide One question, what were you doing out here to decide to put a cache in this spot? TFTC SL

I'm surprised it has been 2 years since this one has been found. It's not far off the road and the bushwhack isn't bad either. It took me a while to find but it is safe and sound. My GPS said it was 25-30 feet south of GZ. TFTC

Were tunnels 7 & 8 actually used. Seems like the RR would have just followed what is now Gold Camp Road and the tunnels would have been skipped. I'm confused. The cache is still safe and in good shape. TFTC.
