Scenic view  Cliff / falling rocks  Medium hike (1km-10km)

A unique and very neglected hilltop overlook of the Air Force Academy.
This cache is a small square rubbermaid located high on a hill just to the west of the United States Air Force Academy.

*** NOTE *** This cache, like the Eagle Peak cache, is close to the AFA boundary, but is not actually on base. One way to get to it is via Rampart Range Road, then east along Schubarth Road. Another good way is to head up Goat Camp Trail from the USAFA visitor center. This area is open to the public from 0900 to 1700 daily and is probably the quickest way. Head up the trail as if heading for the Meadow Muffin cache... from there on, it's up to you.

Enjoy the hike, and the view at the destination. The view of the Academy is spectacular. This should be a fun one; not too difficult and pretty enjoyable. Coming from the Visitor Center it takes about 5 miles round trip and about 1500' elevation gain to the cache location.

Cache is military theme. Initial contents included a variety of Academy, Air Force, and US memorabilia.

Soaking wet logs
I let the cache dry out a bit as I watched some Netflix but it's still pretty wet

Writing this log for my Dad who is a sometimes member of my geocaching team. He was out here visiting some relatives and they grabbed this cache while they were out exploring. He took nothing, left nothing, and signed the log Alston Michigan.

Well, after a huge day circling the Coat Creek basin caches I was finally two away from done & all downhill from here. Not that THAT was any stroll !!

I was last here one day short of eleven years ago, a few months before this cache was placed. We "discovered" this spot previously on the dirt bikes and came back with friends to watch the fireworks on the fourth. I forget how many different displays we saw that night but it was more than ten. We could see displays over the horizon from Denver. I had been geocaching back then but wasn't 'avid' thanks for bringing me back. :-) TNLNSL TFTC Fav for the memories and the cool spot.

This cache has been on my priority list for far too long. When WingsAndTales offered the option of doing it today, I agreed that it was time to do it. Of the many hikes I've done in this area, this one has to take the prize for the most spectacular view of the Academy. Thank you for bringing us up there.

This one brought back a flood of memories. I am a proud graduate of the fine institution directly below('86). I went up Eagle Peak a couple times as a cadet but never made it to this beautiful spot before today. Estes01 took us to the end of Schubarth road in her jeep and we walked the road/trail from there. The trees have narrowed the road a bit since it hasn't seen much use over the past year. The good news is that the rains don't seem to have made the road any worse than it already was. I love these pleasant fall days for hiking. I'll upload a couple photos, too. TFTC

Long hike up, but finally found it after looking on the wrong side of the mountain for about an hour... oh well, all in good fun. =) Found a geocoin, moving it to New Jersey in December, should be interesting. Good luck to anyone who goes for it, just beware going for it straight from the Academy...
