I am inspired by stories of women who live life on their own terms and aspire to something beyond the ordinary. I remember being intrigued by this memorial plaque the first time I hiked up Barr Trail. The plaque is located right next to the trail at an elevation of 12,180 feet.

Some of Ms. Robert's interests included birds, history, plant life, hiking and climbing. She was a hike leader and a member of the Colorado Mountain Club. She was born in Pennsylvania just a few years after the end of the Civil War and had lived in Colorado Springs for about 30 years at the time of her death. She was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.

You can read more about her life and unfortunate death here. You will also find one of the answers for the cache in the article.

To claim this cache you will need to answer two questions and take a photo and post it with your log.

Please send me an email or message with the answers to the following questions:

1. What are the length and width of the plaque(just the plaque, not the rock) in inches?
2. There is an error on the plaque. What is it?

Finally, you MUST include a photo of the plaque that includes YOU AND/OR YOUR GPS. You may obscure your face for privacy reasons if you wish.

There is no short way to get here but there are several options. You can hike Barr Trail from the bottom in Manitou Springs, you can drive to the summit and hike down Barr Trail, or you can ride the train to the Mountain View stop at 10,000' and hike from there to Barr Camp where you will join the main trail.

What better day to summit America's mountain Pikes Peak than on the fourth of July! Went up Barr Trail from Manitou Springs and of course I had to use the opportunity to grab some caches, this was one of them!! TFTC!!!

Barr trail in reverse today. Not sure if it was easier that way or not. Bill dropped me off at the summit and picked me up later in manitou. Thanks for this new virtual. I still can’t fathom her hiking this into her golden years.

Hiking the Barr trail from Manitou Springs to the Pikes Peak Summit on a beautiful day, grabbing a few caches along the way...interesting story with a sad ending...TFTC!

OK. Why on earth did we do this without having done any high altitude caches since the summer. Note, that wasn't a question. Normally I'd agree with the 4 terrain rating, but today it was a 5 for me. Nice tribute to Inestine Roberts! Truly a pioneer that I would have been proud to know. In fact, she reminds me a lot of the CO, except that she was my height! I noticed that her name was G. Inestine Roberts, and I have to wonder how bad her first name was that she decided to go with Inestine. We forgot to bring a tape measure, but I brought an engineer...so see him if the answer is wrong. Nice tribute and a worthy virtual. Thank you!

Inestine sounds like an amazing woman. Anyone who’s in their 80’s and can climb Barr Trail is worthy of my respect. Actually, any age!

Estes01 and I hiked the 2000 feet down from the summit to get to the memorial. That part was easy. It was the return trip that was the killer. There was remarkably little snow for January which made hiking a little easier.

We got back to the summit at 2:30 only to be greeted by the ranger saying they had closed the summit at 1:30 due to high wind. It was a little strange being the only car in the parking lot and the only car on the road down.

Fun cache, thanks! Adding a favorite point.

Is it possible that I'm {*FTF*} a full month after publish?! I was planning on backpacking around Barr camp this week anyway, and a FTF on this virtual would be an amazing bonus!!! Left the trailhead this morning around 4:15, and set up my tent at Barr Camp and chatted with the caretakers for a while before heading up this way.

Congratulations on being awarded a new virtual to place!! Thank you for bringing this woman to my attention. I remember seeing this plaque on the way up last time, but didn't look her up. Reading the article, she sounds like a truly amazing woman, and stubborn in many of the same ways I am... if there's a way to walk, I want to get there on my own two feet. :-)

Hopefully my return to Barr Camp will be safer than hers was. Arrived at GZ at 12:00 sharp, answers sent. Thanks for placing this one, and Happy Thanksgiving!
