This cache is in a pile of huge rocks above Limbaugh Canyon. It is best accessed from Mt. Herman Road (high clearance helpful but not necessary) from Monument, Colorado. There is a short hike in to the rocks, then a few challenging moves within the rock pile to get to the cache.
When you find the "rock pile", enter the "cave" in the rocks by scrambling down to the east, then go to the NE corner of the rock pile. Look for an entrance (see picture). Go in the entrance about 25 feet, then look up to your left for the sky. Find a way to make a couple of rock scrambling moves up to the sunshine to find the cache.

While you are there, explore some of the other passages in the rock pile and try to find another way out of the pile. Enjoy!

I replaced the cache yesterday in it's original location. A friend found that someone had moved the previous version to a spot in the rock pile lower and way off to the side of the scrambling route to get to the real location for some reason. In any case, that cache had been chewed up by rodents pretty well and was soaked, so I replaced it, again, in the original location. I've attached a photo of part of the climb inside the rock pile to get to the top and the cache.

This geocache is missing as of a check I did yesterday. There is an old one visible down a crack in the area where the cache should be located, but it's not retrievable and it's not the one that was found last year (I've had to replace it at least once already). I'm a little puzzled by this cache's disappearance because there are adequate rocks to lock it into place. In any case, I'll try to get back soon and replace it and will report back on this site when I do. Bob Hostetler

Lots of interesting stories on this one! Funny how the most difficult caches normally get the favorite points. 3 terrain...really?! There's no way I would have done this one without ernie66. He believed the container was not in the same spot as it was when he did it in 2006. Now that's a good memory! The strange thing about this pile of "rocks" is that it's easier to find a way in than out. Second bobhostetler cave this year. Lots of fun, once you're out. Thank you!

Well, here I am again... This was the third time here for me - the first time the cache was missing, and I went all the way up to the top ledge trying to find it. The second time was successful, and this was for fun. Thanks for the hide.

COpackrat and I found a way to the cache but apparently it wasn't THE way to the cache. We saw the "entrance" as were leaving and gave it another look. That way was easier than the route we found but both were fun. It's well worth a favorite point. TFTC

Thanks for the cache! Only a 3T?! ha ha ha! Well CrumbCrunchers lost her GPS up here a few weeks back and I volunteered to go back with her and do our best to search it out. We spent some time hopping around and looking deep into each dark crevasse but no luck Frown . If any hunter of this cache in the future happens across it please let us know! After a while of hunting I headed up. I have to admit, even at 6'2" there were a couple climbs, splits, and jumps that had me a little on edge. But I managed to find my way out to daylight. After a brief search of the area I spotted the cache. At which point I realized I left my bag, stamps, pens, and CrumbCrunchers way back down at the bottom. Well I took the same way down and a few spots proved to be even more difficult coming down. We signed and stamped the log. We also removed from the cache a sticky bun, some tums, and a few cigarettes. We left the other swag. It seems that it was more of a party stash than a cache! Wink Well, now back up to replace it and back down! Ugh! We spent some more time searching for the lost GPS but still no luck. Frown Thanks for placing this cache in such an interesting and challenging location!

The views are great!

3rd time and finally brought the right "tool" The first time I came up here with my kids and we lost the GPS down in a crevice somewhere. I focused on trying to find it while Lil Monkee tried to find the cache. Second time and we were just trying to find the GPS. I wanted to try one more time with a better flashlight and RPieperco came back with me. Still no luck with the GPS, but he was able get the cache. He brought the cache down because he forgot his pen so I was able to sign the cache too. I wouldn't have been able to have gotten to where it is. Just listening to his account as he made the 2nd trip up to put it back made me cringe. Sl, thanks!

So happy, happy, happy to get the smilie here. CO Bob offered his guide service just after the deep freeze broke and I said Yep, I'm up for it. I found out on my 1st visit I was in the wrong place to find this cache. My hat's off to those cachers brave enough and able to go the right way. There is no way I would have tried the correct passage without Bob on belay and showing me the way. Yikes! The cache is a very easy find once you have made it. I left a little pony. I actually got hurt the worst on my way out as I slipped down about 3' and laid out on snow that was on top of the entry boulder. When I got home both knees were skinned even though I had 2 layers on and my forearm was bruised, but I healed.

Set out with 2 friends to climb Mt. Herman for the 1st time. Because of a little confusion about the trails, We ended up trekking to this cache 1st. We all climbed into the rock cave according to the picture & my GPS reading. Went the 25' (easy) and looked to the left & saw the daylight. Up I went making some challenging but successful rock climbing moves as instructed, but I wasn't sure how many I needed to make so I looked at the 1st level after what I considered 2 moves with no luck so on up I went making another difficult move and I was pretty near the top where I searched, still no container so all the way up I went with another rock move to where I could look out (see picture). Still no cache, but I did find a water bottle that was pretty full. So back down I went, looking again at each level, to get my phone & look at the additional pics. Everything I saw checked out, including my GPS reading so I was convinced I was in the right cave & area so back up I went. I even expanded into another location to the west (basically) by snaking through a very small opening-no luck there either. I did see a couple of alternate access points, but both would require some rope work to reach the ground. I had real good lights, LED headlamp, etc. but it was late morning and the sun gave me plenty of light in most places. All together I searched for close to an hour, but no luck. My right forearm suffered the most damage from rock contact & is pretty sore today. I don't know when or if I'll ever get back, but I would love another good, solid hint.
