This is a simple cache to highlight this beautiful, and new Open Space in Douglas County.

"This 2,038-acre ranch borders the Pike National Forest and features an extraordinarily diverse landscape including red rock formations and sloping meadows; vast wildlife habitat and corridors, expansive and diverse vegetation and other natural resources; as well as cultural and historic assets, including a historic ranch operation and a number of historic buildings dating back to its original owners in the 1870s." *

It was originally slated for development, but is now protected forever! You can bring your horse, mountain bike, hiking shoes, snow shoes, cross country skis, and/or furry friend (on a leash). There are over 12 miles of trail to enjoy. Remember: Elk, bears, mountain lions, coyotes, and many other wildlife species call this land home.

While this cache is always available (outside the fence), this property is open from 8 a.m. to one hour after sunset. Please stay on designated trails. Geocaches are allowed in DCOS within ten feet of the trail.

Found this when I grabbed the FTF. So I'm STF. Happy to be second. A ranger stopped to ask me if I was okay. I said I was taking photos since it was a beautiful spot. He told me to have a nice day. I am. Thanks for placing this.

Find #821!

Yay! Another animjason hide! I'm looking forward to exploring this new open space.

I had to get into the office this morning, and had planned to leave the house about 5:45. I glanced at my queries and saw this one was available, and for only a minor detour.

I wanted to ride the moto, today. When I started out, I noticed shortly after departure that the oil light was on. Dang. It's always something, lately! Was it too low (no dipstick, just a sight glass that's impossible to read with the kickstand down)? Too cold (it's garaged, and I warmed it up this morning)? I wasn't sure. At the next intersection I was getting ready to make a U-turn and head home when the light went off. I guess it was just cold. So I pressed forward.

It was definitely a chilly ride, though. It's even colder back there in the valley. Brrrr. I was glad I didn't need to manipulate any intricate designs to claim this one ... I might have had to hold my hands on the engine block for an hour, first! And then someone else would probably swoop in for the find... No matter! It all worked out, today!

The clock is wrong on my bike, so my paper log entry has the wrong time ... must be a side effect of the dead battery I had last week ... sorry.

Replaced everything as neatly as I could, and continued on into the office.

Data wasn't good, and my hands were stiff, so I waited to log it until I got to the office (07:50).
