Vic SHUN’s Bell Book and Candle emporium long ago ceased to sell ringing instruments and wax lights but still does a reasonable trade in reading material. This morning, the “just published” shelf contains six (6) new tomes by new authors. From the clues can you name the author of each book on the shelf and give its title and genre? Books A-F are left-to-right on the shelf.

1 – Ulysses a new biography of the US general and President Ulysses S GRANT is immediately next to the book by young author Carol LEWIS.

2 – Book B on the shelf, by first-time author Dick CHARLESTON is not a romantic novel.

3 – Kidnapped is to the immediate left of the self-help book.

4 – Austin JAYNE’s novel is not book F.

5 – Book A is a crime novel but book E, Hard Times is not a novel.

6 – Steven ROBERTSON’s book Heart of Midlothian is to the immediate right of Joyce JAMES’ adventure novel.

7 – Hunting the Shark is not next to Kidnapped.

I was out and about caching with herndonrd because I make him look good. He typically finds the caches while I look in all the wrong places. This was one of those typical occasions where I read off the description and/or prior logs and he simply ignores me and finds the cache. Hooray! After we did the whole sign and replace thing we celebrated our victory by heading back to the car and driving off to another one. Thanks for the fun hide and for getting me outside on such a beautiful day.

P. S. No animals (humans or otherwise) were harmed in the writing of this log.
