I spent a peaceful moment in this beautiful place- and found it very deserving of a cache. Be careful as you come across from the Barr Trail to not tread on the delicate grasses that grow up above 13000 feet.

Inspiration for locating this cache can be found if you look carefully at two nearby caches that I happened to find the same day that I hid this cache. Both are also accessible from somewhere within the top 3 miles or so of the Barr Trail on Pikes Peak.

5 Logs: Found it 5

Found it 06/28/2017 By Grotprof
Whilst attending a conference in the US I had some extra time to do some geocaching. This took me to Denver, Colorado Springs and even into Kansas to log the worlds oldest cache currently available. Some of the caches were really tough due to the hiking involved at (for me) fairly high altitude. These include some 5/5 challenges west of Colorado Springs at 3200m and some around Pikes Peak at ca 4300m.
I’d like to take this general opportunity thank all the cache owners for their caches (whether traditional, mystery, wherigo, virtual, multi or earth) and I will add further comments on individual caches. Plus some photos when home again. TFTCs!
Here: Oi oi! This was real tough. Climbing down from the top was not so bad but how to get to the cache without a path? Well I found a way. Cache was well hidden but the spoiler was a big help. Then getting back up was sooo hard at over 4000 meters. But eventually I made it. FP for one heck of an experience.

Searching out the best approach to this one was a bit of guesswork. Once we got close the GPS wanted to send us off into thin air. Thanks to a previous log we didn't take to flight. Instead, we had a look around and were able to make the find.

I've been to the summit of Pikes Peak three times before--twice by day hikes up and back from the Barr Trail Head (26 miles and 7,500 feet of elevation gain), and once by driving up the toll road to the summit parking area. The first two hiking adventures were made before I learned about geocaching, and on the second hike, a VERY hot day, my all-time favorite dog, Denali, became so dehydrated that I needed to carry her down the final 1/2 mile to parking. I had packed a huge amount of water that day, but she nonetheless was a very thirsty dog as we closed in on the parking area!

The third trip to the summit of Pikes Peak was for finding geocaches; I found all of them near the top. Of these, all but one have been archived. So today, on my 4th time to the summit area, as icezebra11 and I drove up the road so carefully (we did not wish to be featured in another photo similar to the third one of estes01's sequence of photos in her "Pikes Peak Summit" cache!), I was excited about all these "new" caches waiting to be found. We did well with our cache-finding, but had two DNFs that consumed lots and lots of cache-hunting time. We particularly enjoyed our hike DOWN the Barr Trail from the top. We descended about 1,000 feet to find three caches along our way. After finding the target cache at our lowest planned elevation we started up again, going off-trail to find this cache at an amazing location in terms of views. The puzzle is fashioned to an extent along the lines of some that akabumper and I found together on a wonderful hike we shared with others so many years ago on Round/Sheep Mountain. Thanks for it, Chris. I miss seeing and communicating with you!

Denali41 and I made the drive down from Northern Colorado to cache on Pikes Peak today. We got an early start and arrived at the toll gate about 10 minutes before it opened. Needless to say there was plenty of parking available once we arrived on top. It was a bit cool so we threw on a couple layers and commenced caching. What a great variety of caches on top of Pikes - traditional, multi, mystery, virtual, earth, and Wherigo!

I had solved this puzzle quite some time ago but hadn't made it up here to go for the hike until today. After we had reeled in a couple caches on the Barr Trail we headed for this one. Our coordinates put us over the edge by about 20 feet and we weren't sure whether we really did need to find our way down or not. Just as Denali41 was about to make a not-so-easy move down, I spotted the container on top and stopped him just in time. We happily signed the logs and enjoyed reading the list of notable cachers that had found this before us. Thanks akabumper for placing this great cache above the cirque!!!

Nice cool morning for a hike down to this one.

I ended up being 12' above GZ.

After a short search, got it.

Thanks for a fun hide in a very nice spot!
