The forgotten genius in his laboratory

Located in Colorado Springs at Memorial Park. A short, easy hike.
This spot marks the historical site of a laboratory belonging to a forgotten genius. It was from this facility that some of his most important discoveries were made a hundred years ago.

Though few of us know his name, this man's work is behind many great inventions:

  • the fluorescent light
  • the neon light
  • microwave oven
  • speedometer
  • alternating current (ac)
  • ac motor
  • the world's first hydroelectric plant
Read the historical marker to answer the following questions and email the answers to claim the cache:
  1. Who is the genius?
  2. On what street was his historic lab located?
  3. Who dedicated the historic marker?

Out caching with (piker) as we are traveling west towards Flagstaff, AZ. We are trying to find caches in each of the counties we traverse along with challenges and virtual caches. We were quite successful. This was one of the ones we found.

Piker e-mailed answers.

Thank you.

Our family is on vacation in Colorado Springs. Since my biological clock is on another time zone, I'm up very early in the morning. While my family was sleeping in the hotel, I decided to visit Memorial Park.

Very nice! I now remember my history and that this genius was located here briefly. Interesting history on the plaque, and I was not familiar with the group that dedicated it. First time I've heard of it. Thanks for maintaining this VC!

Our second big trip this year. This time more mid country hunting for the oldest caches in the states. Our trip started in Kansas City, MO and continued through Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, the most NW corner of Texas, New Mexico to culminate in Colorado. It rained all day first three days but that did not stop us to accomplish our goals and some. Colorado Springs welcomed us with the snow and below freezing temperatures. But the hunt must go on... Maggie :) and I enjoyed this beautiful country, the scenery, the animals, the food and friendly people.

We spent the night in the area so I came over here near evening time in hopes that it would not be to busy. This man is not a forgotten genius in my world. I remember reading and learning of this guy in the ‘80’s. What an amazing man, to bad for all the government corruption.

On a Fall trip through Colorado doing some caching and seeing the sites. A beautiful scenic drive through Rocky Mountain National Park. Visiting the downtown areas of Boulder, Denver, Castle Rock and Colorado Springs to name a few. We enjoyed a beautiful hike on the Barr trail at the Summit of Pikes Peak. It was a wonderful trip with quite a bit of caching thrown in along the way. Amazing amount of markers and history in this park. Thanks for bringing us here. Answers emailed.

This is not a forgotten genius to me! I'm fascinated with anything related to this inventor. I look forward to learning more about him in Telluride during our trip. Thankful to who is responsible for putting this marker here, as well as to the cache owner for bringing attention to this genius. TFTC location

It was very interesting to read about him. Back home in Western NY, there is a monument for this man, so pretty cool to see something across the country about his history! Here for a short work trip, had to grab a few this evening before going home in the morning. Beautiful park with lots of history and dedications! TFTC

I drove my this place for years without ever stopping and didn't realize his laboratory was nearby. A genius who never got his rightful due and acknowledgement for his amazing inventions

Spent the night in Colorado Springs and wanted to visit this memorial on our way out of town. After dodging road construction we were able to get to the park and gather the information needed. Wish we had more time in the area - need to plan a return trip!
