Originally I was going to place two more caches up here for a total of five. While scouting locations I disturbed a red-tailed hawk nest, so I decided to avoid that spot and just place one more.

To find this cache you will have to find the first three caches in the series:

Dakota Ridge # 1
Dakota Ridge # 2
Dakota Ridge # 3

Each of these holds one clue which will lead you to Dakota Ridge # 4.

Dakota Ridge # 4 is located here:

N 38° 28.AB9' W 105° 15.2C7'

If you have already found the first three in the series you will still have to stop by to get the clues. They are all along the way to # 4 anyway.

This series is NOT for young children or the severely acrophobic (although this would be a good way to cure your acrophobia). There is no trail beyond Dakota Ridge # 3. You will have to do a significant amount of bushwhacking, rock hopping, and possibly some scrambling, depending on the route you choose. I rated the terrain a "4", but if you choose your route carefully it is not that difficult. Along the way you will be rewarded with fantastic views, and at the end you will be find a LARGE container with lots of swag. There are prizes for the first two finders.

Total round trip hiking distance is less than two miles from the Skyline Drive Parking Waypoint, but allow 2-3 hours for the series.

The Hogbacks Open Space is closed from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am. Skyline Drive is closed at night and during inclement weather. Skyline Drive is a narrow one-way road with steep drop offs. It exits in Caņon City. Sturdy shoes are a must. Long pants and gloves will also be helpful. There are steep drop offs and loose rocks. Be wary of cacti and slithering creatures. Please re-hide well. It took a lot of effort to get this big container up here. I don't want to have to replace it.

Hi - date is approximate since we had really sketchy internet service during our recent visit to the Colo Springs area & I'm late-logging.
I had two very nice days to visit down to Canyon City- interrupted by that mini-blizzard that rolled thru ! Found a lot of caches including some challenges, & a multi with a choice D/T combo for filling a space in an all-multi fizzy grid.

I really enjoyed the series along the ridge, but a coughing fit due to past medical stuff made me a bit glad for the blizzard-break of a couple days in my schedule !! I think some more Woodstock-bound TB's may have been up this way too.

Certainly I'll be thinning the inventory of trackables recorded in this one.... & at least trade for a favorite point Smile for the views on a nice winter late-afternon

It was a beautiful day and I decided to hike to all my caches along Dakota Ridge. All were in good condition, had dry logs, and were well stocked. I picked up two of the travel bugs that have been here for a year. I left a travel bug that likes to spend time in lonely caches. This one certainly fits the bill. Cache on!

It was a beautiful day today and I decided to take advantage by hiking on Skyline Drive and checking all my caches up there. This cache is in perfect condition and is waiting patiently to be found. I had forgotten how hard it was to get here without the benefit of a trail. I slipped on a loose rock and got a hand full of cactus spines. I swapped several trackables. Cache on!

I must say this series would have been much easier had I turned onto the right trail instead of staying on the lt side of the ridge all the way (yes I did go there) . Pretty sketchy in a few places. I realized my error when I got to the first cache. It all worked out in the end though and I was able to get all the smileys. Thanks for a great series!

After stopping at Dakota Ridge #1, 2 & 3 to get the number I needed I put the coordinates into my GPS and off I went. After awhile of searching I wasn't coming up with anything so I checked my GPS and you know what I was off by two numbers so I corrected it and climbed back up the hill and there it was I found the cache. This was a good hike. I enjoyed every minute of it and it was a perfect day to get out and do a cache.
T- TB and L - TB
Thanks for the wonderful cache

I haven't been out in a few weeks because of the weather. It was cloudy this morning but no rain yet!! Great morning for a hike along the ridge. I stepped wrong on #2 and scraped my elbow. I guess it's not a good Geocaching day unless there is some blood!Wink Grabbed all the clues for the final and headed off across the ridge. I was almost to the GZ and found two cut off telephone poles. Sign posts I'm sure. Spotted the hide and then had to figure out the best way to get to it. I brought along a few travelers that I picked up on my trip to Farmington NM. You can't have a big container like this without some travelers!!Approve Signed the log and put it back in it's hiding spot. Favorite for sure. SL TFTC
