History:
Cathedral, an agricultural area, is located at the junction of
Cebolla (pronounced suh-VOY-ah) Creek and Spring Creek. Cathedral
was named for 2 isolated, 380 foot tall rock spires that resemble
steeples. The area has 4 locations with burials. The 4 cemeteries
are all on private property.
The Doering Family Cemetery is located on the south side of Mineral
creek. Three infant children of Guy and Sophronia Doering are
buried in the cemetery in coffins handmade by Guy Doering. Stephen
Everett Doering died in 1899 and Margeret Rose Doering died in 1902
both shortly after birth. Guy Roy Wilmer Doering was born in
February 1905 and died June 15, 1905. The graves are all in a
handmade wooden fence built by Guy Doering and marked with a family
stone marker reading "Doering".
A single unmarked grave is located 4 miles up Cebolla Creek from
the Doering Cemetery. Leta Inez Lee was born on April 4, 1888. On
October 18, 1909, Leta Lee committed suicide using strychnine
poison. She was buried at the family ranch.
About 1906, the infant son of Lee and Ida Ferguson died and was
buried in an unmarked grave 1/4 mile up Rock Creek.
Born June 3, 1979, Michael Scott Cadwell excelled in computer
sciences and mathematics, was active in Future Farmers of America,
and enjoyed played chess. On February 5, 1994 at the age of 14,
Cadwell was accidentally asphyxiated at the family ranch. He was
buried on the Cadwell ranch at Cathedral.

Please take some time to reflect back
on the lives of these pioneers and the effort it took to make
Colorado such a great state!! The only guarantee in life is death.
Where will you be?
Colorado Spirit Quest
Information:
The Colorado Spirit Quest (CSQ) is a series of caches placed by
many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of
paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have
"walked" before us. There are hundreds of cemeteries in
the rural and mountain communities across Colorado. This series
will provide a history tour of these cemeteries. If you are
apprehensive about cemeteries, avoid this series.
The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task. It will
only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers willing
to place these caches. Each person that places a CSQ cache is
responsible for its maintenance.
New volunteers are always Welcome!! If you are
interested in being a part of this project,
email the owner of
Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Golden Mountain Passage.
