History:

In August 2011, Peter Vakovsky (of Oxnard, CA) was in Colorado participating in a California motorcycle club group ride. The retired Vakovsky was a founder of L&V Construction in Glendale, CA. On August 18, 2011, Vakovsky was riding south on Hinsdale County Road 50 near Cathedral. Sadly, Vakovsky ran into a jeep and died instantly.

Memorials are placed on both sides of the road. A handmade wooden cross on one side and a white cross on the other side.

Please take some time to reflect back on the life of Peter Vakovsky and all accident victims.

Colorado Spirit Quest Information:

The Colorado Spirit Quest (CSQ) is a series of caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have "walked" before us. There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural and mountain communities across Colorado. This series will provide a history tour of these cemeteries. If you are apprehensive about cemeteries, avoid this series.

The CSQ endeavor is an enormous and relentless task. It will only flourish if there is a multitude of volunteer cachers willing to place these caches. Each person that places a CSQ cache is responsible for its maintenance.

New volunteers are always Welcome!! If you are interested in being a part of this project, email the owner of Colorado Spirit Quest #1 – Golden Mountain Passage.

I've looked for this cache at least twice now (maybe even 3 times) in the last 3 years with no luck. The tied twig cross is no longer there as a previous cacher said & there are stickers on the white cross across the road for each Colorado outing year I assume the deceased made with the club. I have checked all the trees & rocks within 30' of GZ looking for a micro with no luck.

Our GPS was all over the place. After looking for a long time we decided to think 'green' instead of rock gray. There is no longer any memorial on this side of the road. The one on the other side is nice.

Wow, a cache that is over a year and a half old and still not logged. My GPS never did want to settle down here. I would set it down and it would say 6ft and a few minutes later it would be above 30ft. I would move the GPS to a new location and it would initially say 6ft only to change a few minutes later. Needless to say I search far and wide. My wife finally join the search and I asked her to look at an area I had already searched since my GPS had pointed in that general direction. It wasn't too long before I heard her say found it. My only excuse is I must need new glasses. Overall we had a great drive along this deserted road. The scenery was beautiful and my biggest regret was that I had not brought my fishing pole along! Thanks for the cache and the FTF.
