Scenic view  Not Recommended at night  Not Available during winter  Motorcycles  Quads  Off-road vehicles  Horses

Between South Fork and Pagosa Springs, CO, this is a high altitude cache for those who enjoy some off-road fun. A 4x4, ATV, Dirt Bike, or Horse will be required since a 2-wheel drive vehicle wont be able to handle the terrain. The Cache altitude is about 11,400 ft on the Continental Divide.
You will be looking for a blue waterproof container with a logbook, pencil, and pencil sharpener.

Use the information from the waypoint list on this page along with a very good topo map of the Rio Grande National Forest. I highly suggest the one from National Geographic. Make sure you have plenty of daylight. It is approx 29 miles to complete the loop from Hwy 160 and Pass Creek Rd (390) back to Hwy 160 and Park Creek Rd (380). Plan on 3.5 hours in a jeep during good weather conditions with little stopping.

Start at Hwy 160 (N37 31.695 W106 46.221) and Drive on Pass Creek Rd (390) until you reach the intersection of 384 (N37 29.047 W106 42.355) and go uphill to the right. This is where you will need 4 wheel drive. Continue on 384 until you reach the intersection of 385 (N37 28.209 W106 41.789) and take another right. Continue on 385 until you reach a spur-road at the top that breaks off to the right (N37 26.613 W106 41.270). The cache will be just up the hill from this location. Three years ago this was a walking trail. It has since been used by jeeps, etc. Please do not drive in any location where there is no road or we will lose our privilege of using this area. Be extra careful if it is muddy and please do not make any new tracks here.. Once you find the cache, continue back the same way you came and arrive again at road 385 and the spur (N37 26.613 W106 41.270). If you left a trailer for your bikes or ATV's, you will most likely want to head back down to Hwy 160 the same way you came up. If you are street-legal and don't need to head back to a trailer, continue east / north east on 385 down several switch backs until you come to another intersection with 384 (N37 27.840 W106 40.965). Stay right and continue on 385 to the intersection of 385 and 380 / Park Creek Rd (N37 28.764 W106 40.335). Turn left and head northwest to get back to Hwy 160 (N37 35.789 W106 43.653). At the end of the loop here you can also look for GC13Q57.

Came back up here with Luv2Hyke on the first day of the government shutdown. What a great area and nice little hike up to the cache. The cache was in great condition...I bet I'm the last one to find it for the year! :) Thanks!

This cache was one I have wanted to find for the last few years. I had to try out my new 2014 Rubicon so we headed out from Pagosa to go up Elwood Pass. Our neighbors with their '06 Rubi decided to join us. About 4ish we headed down Park Creek Road when we decided to head back over the pass via Fall Creek Road. We got down the road quite a ways when we stopped to snack and that is when I decided to pull out the gpsr and noticed we were 3.3 miles from the cache. Our neighbors hadn't really heard of caching, but thought it would be fun to try-now it is 5:00 pm. We headed back to the intersection of 384/385 and up to the cache we went. Drove as close as we could as the last 1/3 mile is now supposedly closed off to vehicles although atvs/4wheelers continue to ignore the metal posts in the road. Got to gz at 7 and at sunset! Quite a view of the peaks with still some of the first snows on them. Quite a fun and challenging drive getting out of there after dark. My neighbor is now hooked on caching! What a way for him to do his first cache!!!

This is the most beautiful cache I have ever been to. We had a great time both getting there and looking around once we got there. We have been coming to this area for years and never knew this meadow and view was here. I highly recommend taking the trip up here to see it. We were in two slightly lifted Jeep Wranglers and had no problems getting around.

Wow factor = 4 (Awesome!) A challenging 4x4 route in my Ford Expedition. I walked the last mile. Fantastic view from on top, and lots of beautiful country to get there. This has got me thinking of backpacking some of the CDT. Thanks for a fun adventure getting to a beautiful remote spot.
