Easy to find inside large Rock Covered Cave. Easy to find after you get to the location. Inside are Logbook, Pencil. Please leave rocks inside can to hold it from blowing away in the strong winds. This was placed for member only geocacher to encourage them to look at beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains. FTF RDADWhile I was attending the 08-23-2011 USA Pro Cycling Challenge. I climbed to this Vista point to look at the race on both sides of Independence Pass CO Route 82. I was able to see more than 6 road miles of switch backs on each side of the summit. What a beautiful view. Start your hike on the foot trail at Independence Pass Summit on the north side of CO Route 82. The trail starts east of the small glacier lake. This hike is worth the time and energy. As you hike, you will be able to see both sides of the Continental Divide at the same time. You will be able to see several 14,000 foot peaks including Massive, La Plata, Belford, Oxford, Missouri, Huron, Harvard, Columbia, Yale, Princeton, Antero, Castle, Pyramid, Moroon, Holy Cross, Sherman, Elbert and dozens of 13ers. You will also see several glacier lakes including Independence, Linkins and Blue, which can not be seen from the lower elevations at Independence Pass Summit. Young Children can easily make this climb. Allow about one hour round trip. Take water and a snack. Please stay on the trail and protect the Tundra using wilderness protocol. The cache is about 50 feet off the trail but you can walk softly on stones and sand and not hurt the environment. Watch for storm clouds in the afternoon and descend if you see lightning near by. You can also climb higher than the cache to get to the summit at about 13,500 feet. Enjoy and please leave feedback about your experience of the area. Please log your find of the TRACKABLE geo coin and let it travel to another unique area. Please leave a trackable or unique cache for the next adventurous geocacher. Also note that the Tundra is protected 100 feet on each side of CO Route 82, so stay on the foot trail as much as possible. Have fun and enjoy.
Very easy to see after you find GPS position. NO snow find season. Look for small steel bar leaning against rock cave which has cache protected. There is also one larger steel bar driven into ground about 20 feet away. You will NOT find this in more than 3 inches of snow.

09/08/2018 By finesilver Independence Pass cache #3 of the day
09/02/2018 By Lego Crew Our 4th cache of the day. We are spending the Labor Day weekend in the Leadville area. This morning, we began by driving to Independence Pass. Arrived early before the crowds. After visiting the observation platform, we then began hiking up to the summit of the nearby 13,500' unnamed peak. Found this cache along our route. We had the entire trail to ourselves. Warm when we started hiking, but on the descent, the winds returned and temperatures began to drop as the rains moved in. A nice view indeed. Many thanks.
08/19/2018 By Kerewin0430 After cheering on my friend as she finished the Leadville 100 this morning, I headed towards Independence Pass to get the other caches I had targeted for the weekend. Thanks for placing this cache! All is well here, and coords are spot on! After I signed the cache (spot #20 was still blank - I guess everyone after Hartsdale wanted to sign the new strip?!), I turned around and said out loud, "WHOA! What a view!" Aptly named! Didn't take a picture on the way up, but took this about 150' from the cache on the way back down.

09/17/2014 By exed2010 pretty hike, but very hard. The elevation made it harder. The cache was pretty close to to the coordinates. Fun cache!!!!!
