One of those great, excessive indulgences in geocaching! “8” is the last cache owner name I needed for alphanumeric cache and/or cache owner stats & challenges. Even though you have to type an “8” to use it as the eyes in a smiley face emoji at the beginning of your owner name... if it wasn’t used as an 8; OR if it’s for a “sock puppet “ owner name... you may not get to count it for the statistics.
Let’s leave alone entirely the subject of a “sock puppet “ being able to own a challenge cache that they aren’t even remotely qualifed to “find” .... okay enough soap-boxing about irrationalities in geocaching policy.
With the effects of the strong late-winter storm keeping the roofers off the job today I had liberty to indulge. Came over from the ‘Springs for just this one find. It was actually warmer in the Buena Vista valley than anywhere east, and you’d had a whole lot less snow than farther east and higher up. Leaving BV headed north it suddenly occurred I’d left my Garmin at home !!!
Knowing AT&T was never going to give me service to “app” my way to this, I pulled over & made a lot of notes while I did have service. W&T’s and Ngrrfan’s logs proved key, as the ‘creekside road’ was quite full of packed snow & running water.
But then the phone company redeemed itsself from much past maligning -by me- about rural service: I had enough bars to navigate the ‘northern route’ through the remaining blobs of snow drifts all the way to within 157 feet of GZ... then hiked on up & with one tiny bar of reception showing went right down to 20 feet & the easy find!!!
The cache is still in top condition; nestled among the skeletal remains of at least two former incarnations.

I'd call it hazardous duty. Out with ibgpin (signed in 2011) checking out trails around Granite. The main road in was washed out in 2014. Cache in good condition

Out with Farm Girl and Olive today. Once I found the right road it was up and up and up the hill. We parked at the cross roads to the west and hiked up the hill past the mine to make the find. Container is in AWESOME shape. Stamped the log and we're off to the next one. [8d][8d] SL TFTC TNLN

Took the high road to this one since the streams are still running pretty full. It was worth it since I learned a few things about what my XTerra can do. TFTC

After doing some research, wingsandtales and I came up with an alternate way in. We had a few misgivings but in the end those proved to be unfounded. We quickly found the cache and then headed out to Clear Creek Reservoir for another find and lunch.
With this cache I've now completed a challenge and I can go sign it. TFTC

Today was not the best day to try for this one. The creek has washed out road a bit, and it was running really fast. Obviously spring runoff is in full swing. After looking at what we faced, wingsandtales and I decided that we needed to do more research. A trip across the valley to the Granite Cemetery gave us some "Hmmmm... I wonder" and "I'll bet we....." ideas. It may take some research but we'll be back. We've got a couple of ideas we need to explore further.

After the Event at the top of Colorado, I fished my way down to the turnoff to this one.
It was starting to rain as I drove the few miles back to this old mine.
It quit just in time for a short hike and search.
Thanks for the hide in a very cool spot.

Have been coming to the Twin Lakes area since the mid-sixties, & still haven't seen everything. We had hiked Mount Elbert earlier in the week, and the vacations were at the end, so I decided to take the old Black Stallion out for one last time, before she took me on the long trek home. We moved along slowly, due to the rough trail, passing prospectors panning the streams, determined to reach our destination. When we did arrive, we were very excited at what we saw. We found what we thought was the container, & contents strung about. We pulled it all together, added a new log (in a camoed pill bottle) & placed it in the container. The container appeared to be just fine, so we build a new hiding spot were we found it, & tucked it back into place. From there we proceeded taking a lot of pictures. It was a great location, and reminded me of why I began geocaching in the first place. Thanks for placing your great cache, & bringing us here. sbc, KC, KS.

Last day in Colorado. The last two weeks of camping in Twin Lakes has been wonderful. We have to end the yearly camping trip with a cool cache. We had to. So we chose this one. I was a nervous wreck going up that road (and we weren't even in my vehicle but a friends 4 X 4). We kept driving and the numbers kept going down and then those old houses came in view. My goodness what a sight! Drove right up to the old mine. Found what we think was the cache. It was a sandwich tupperware container but nothing was in it. We found a couple trinkets scattered and picked them up and put them in the container. We also put in a camoed pilled bottle with a log in it and a couple rocks to hold it down. It was not cracked or anything so should hold up for a while. I think we spent a good hour up there looking around and taking pictures. Went down and looked at the cabins and we even had a nice conversation with a man who was prospecting. He was so nice to entertain my 12 year old with the 1000 questions. This is why I started geocaching. This is one of my new favorite caches. Thanks! Flo. from Kansas City.
