Dogs  Access or parking fee  Recommended for kids  Takes less than an hour  Scenic view  Abandoned mines  Not Wheelchair accessible  Parking available  Public restrooms nearby  Picnic tables nearby  Camping available  No Park and Grab  Short hike (less than 1km)

Short hike from parking. Cache elevation is 12,083 feet above sea level.
I decided to place this cache here for the stunning 360 degree views of the mountains and valley. The way the mountains are, you could easily be in the bottom of a large bowl, hence the name.

Hopefully you can find this cache while ascending / descending some of the nearby 14ers. Park at the Kite Lake Campground and take the .15 mile walk to the cache. Please note that there is a $3 parking fee for Kite Lake Campground.

Please replace everything as found at GZ and use low impact caching skills on the land here. Please also make sure that the lid is snapped down on all corners of the container bottom. If you are having trouble finding the cache, there is a spoiler picture below that you can view.

Good luck, have fun, and please enjoy the cache!

A snowy approach. Couldn’t get to Emma lake today. Will be back for the tour. At least we got one.

Walked over snow to get to this location. Visiting from MN. This is our highest elevation geocache to date.

55Connie and I were originally going to take a drive. We then decided to drive up to the trailhead for Democrat Peak for a possible adventure next week. We met the maintenance man at our lodge and mentioned our plans for the day. He pulled out his cell phone and showed us pictures of his trek to bag Democrat Peak last Saturday...he also mentioned it only took four hours (round trip). Being as it was only a bit after 10 we decided to make it our goal for the day. We arrived shortly after 1130, there were clouds moving in and we heard thunder in the distance. We elected to make our trek of Democrat Peak another day. What to do now? We decided to hike to Emma Lake. We had an enjoyable day, saw a couple other hikers and someone fishing the lake. Great location for a geocache. Thanks for the placement.

Parked near here, at the end of a rugged gravel road, to clear mb Mt. Democrat. Hint was a big help. Left a travel bug, which was immediately picked up.

It took us 4 or 5 tries but we finally we made it to Kite Lake, we've always had to turn back because of snow or horrible ruts. The road was not bad today, our son drove his Accord to the parking area without any problem. Got here in the afternoon as the main storm (and crowds) were clearing out, had the place almost to ourselves. Unfortunately there was still some stray lightning hanging around so we weren't able to do the hike to Lake Emma... maybe next time.

Took a few minutes to track down cache, would have found it quicker if we had used our geosenses. Awesome views from here, thanks so much Tom.dog for bringing us to this beautiful spot.

Our 8th find of the day. We had a great hike to the four summits today. It was a busy Labor Day Sunday, but the weather was perfect. We arrived back at the trailhead around 1:30 p.m. Finance Guy had run down the trail from Mt. Democrat, and arrived a few minutes ahead of Scout, which gave me a chance to wander over and hunt this cache before we began driving back to Breckenridge. Found the cache quickly. Grabbed a TB and then met Scout back at the trailhead. Many thanks.
