Stage III (Final) Spoiler 1

This is a 3 stage multi, with class 3 trails, and a difficulty 3 rating (hence the name "Quandary Cubed").
This is a straightforward 3-stage multi-cache that will take you most of the way up Quandary Peak's west ridge. The best part of the hike is actually the part of the ridge between the final and the summit, so you might as well grab "Uber's Quandary" and enjoy the view.

I've included spoilers for each stage, which are various sizes of camoed "Lock-and-Lock" containers.

The Blue Lakes Trailhead is the recommended start point. We had to park at N39 23.287 W106 05.317 due to the construction on the dam, but the trail is easy enough to follow.

The "trail" between the Final Stage and the summit is definately the most challenging part and is well deserving of its class three rating, so be careful.

For years I've wanted to make the re-ascent of Fletcher Mountain to find Archer's Friend and then to climb the Class 3 West Ridge of Quandary to reach the final stage of (Quandary)^3. I had climbed Fletcher years and years ago, and had also descended the West Ridge of Quandary way-back-when. When kenyansherpa, icezebra11, and I hiked to the summit of Mt. Elbert for the Flash Mob Event last August we promised one another that in 2014 we'd make the ascents of Fletcher and Quandary for these caches. Today was the chosen one, and we were indeed fortunate with the weather. Last night's thunderstorms that hit our camping spot cleared out before midnight, and we had fine weather as we worked our way up the mountains to find these wonderful caches and then for our descent down Quandary's East Ridge. It was a fun day, punctuated by finds of some great caches that had gone "lonely" for too long. Views in the morning lighting were wonderful, unforgettable. It was great to look out over vast distances to admire so many mountains I've climbed in the past, and to pick out general alpine cache hide locations where I've had fun caching experiences over past years. But what made this trip especially pleasurable was the companionship with two fine friends. Yes, a very memorable, fine day. This multi was of course the caching highlight, but making this hike and the West Ridge scramble with friends will be the thing about today that will always be recalled so fondly.

The physical cache log book was last signed by SwimFin on October 17, 2010, making this cache almost 4 years "lonely". The "Found it" log by SBD 1952 does not appear valid, because this cacher did not sign the cache log book.

I took the geocoin that was in the cache and will move it along. Thanks, greengineer, for providing the ingredients that brought all of this together for us.

Denali41 and I drove down from our homes in the greater Fort Collins area to the Hoosier Pass area yesterday for today's hike with Kenyansherpa to Fletcher and Quandary. We parked one vehicle at the east ridge trailhead and then we drove the second vehicle to Blue Lake and began our ascent at 4:30 am. Though it was very dark, the first stage was found very quickly. Then we had difficulty finding the trail through the willows. After a couple wrong turns we finally got on the right trail and headed for the saddle. Found stage two on the ground out in the open. Got the needed info and then returned it to its original spot and secured it with some rocks. Then we made a detour up to Fletcher before returning to the saddle and heading up the west ridge. Got to GZ and with help of the spoilers the final container was found. We each signed the log right after SwimFin. We then continued up the west ridge to the summit. Greengineer is right when he says the challenge is between the final and the summit. Thanks greengineer for this awesome multi!!!

NOTE TO FUTURE SEEKERS - for Stage II, the container is no longer on the ground under a rock. We found the container on the ground in the open and didn't refer back to the spoiler photo when we rehid it. Looking at Stage II Spoiler 1 it is now in the top of the large upward left slanting crack covered by small stones. The next finder may want to return it to its original spot.

Denali41, Icezebra11 and I had a very enjoyable climb for this one, picking off Fletcher on the way and then continuing up the west ridge to Quandary's summit. This is one of the best multis I have ever done! All hides were awesome to find and are all in good shape. We did need to put the second stop into a more discrete spot. This is a lonely stash having not been found in 4 years! Thanks to greengineer for creating a very enjoyable experience for us! ( I'll include photos later ).

Denali41 and Icezebra11 + lot's of snow for July!

SwimFin found all stages for this cache quickly and in good shape. Took Longs Peak marker, left a signature dolphin key chain and a Geocoin "Spivey's Leave Yer Mark," SL. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache. Cheers, SwimFin.

A very nicely laid out multicache...all of the stages are nicely hidden and all are in good condition. It was a lonely and very interesting and enjoyable hike/climb from the 1st to the final. TNLN and signed the logbook. Thanks for all of your efforts in placing such a great cache!

did this one today with my son-in-law and my 2 granddaughters, there was a snow covered shoot .28 miles short of the cache so they stayed back and I went on and made the grab, all three are in great shape and just as in the hints. grabbed the jeep that was stuck there. great cache thanks for all the work to put it together.
