The nook in which it is

A small cache at the top of Quandary Peak.
*Description update 8/16/2010* The original container is still up there and the spoiler photos are still helpful. Since readings can be wonky up high, it's probably best to find it with a distance/bearing from the summit marker.

The cache container is a small nalgene container (not a normal bottle) camoed to look like a rock-but a different color rock than what's up there. Oops. That should help you out. Its mouth is just wide enough for a TB dogtag.

I'm a believer in the hard hike-easy cache philosophy, so there are several spoiler photos, and in the event that the coordinates are off, I'm telling you that from the summit log, the cache is 230 degrees magnetic north with 10 degrees East variance for 93 feet, under a kairn.

If you haven't done a 14er before, I'm giving you the name Gerry Roach and directing you to your local library. Do your homework! And get off the summit by noon at the latest.

The easiest way up is a five mile long, class one climb. There are other routes that may require technical equipment, and one class three scramble.

Bon chance!

DNF. The coords were really funky and essentially useless showing 50ft off the mountain. I did my best in looking, but the windy and cold conditions did not lend to a lot of time in the search. It was fun anyway!

I spent a good 30 minutes looking for the cache. We even had bystanders helping us. We just couldn't locate it. We did find a cable tethered, but no container.

Thanks

A disappointing dnf today. We were forced to climb because yesterday betterthanpetter's father made it up. So of course that was a challenge. Today at the top it was snowing. Looked everywhere and talked to btp and couldn't find it. Decided it was smarter to head down than to continue looking.

We had a great hike to the summit of Quandary Peak this morning. The Labor Day weekend brought out a large crowd. Glad we were here on Friday and not Saturday or Sunday when the crowds were huge. Near perfect weather today. We set off on the trail at 6:30 and clouds blanketed the top of the mountain. It was a bit breezy up top when we first arrived, and the clouds shrouded the visibility. There was a crowd arriving as we began to descend, and then the clouds lifted, revealing the valley below. Great hike. Our 2nd 14er.

We were confused by what we found on the summit. Found one container that was broken with a cable attached. Found another a ways away and closer to the description in the cache listing. Looks like the CO has not logged into GC since 2015, but this cache probably needs some TLC. Thanks.

Got it! The hike was very hard. I'm pretty sure that I found the right container.

Happy Independence Day? Hiked this with my brother-in-law and nephews for our first 14er. Even got a fly-by and wing dip from two F16s. Haven't geocached in a while. Got to the top and stumbled on what I thought to be a cache, tied down so not to be stolen, broken, and with a soggy log in it. Thought I'd come back and check on here if I was right. Based on the description of the container though I DNF. Was a fun hike anyway. Maybe time to dust off the GPSr and make some new finds. Good luck with this one, have fun and be safe.

A last minute trip up Quandry made the perfect scenario for my 8,500th cache. It was a tough find with the crowds at the top but persistence paid off. Log is still damp but I managed to sign it.

Came up the south couloir from the lake. Saw no one until I got to the summit, and it was so crowded I couldn't even see any of the rocks in the spoiler photo, but got close to GZ and waited for a family to decamp from the area before making the find. The log was a little wet, but I was able to "tease" some of the sheets far enough out of the narrow mouth to stamp the log without tearing anything. I was glad for the good weather day!

Well after an brutal hike to the top, I caught my breath, did a little celebration, then got to work to find this one. Ran into a couple of people looking as well. I found ground zero dug all around but to no avail. Not sure if it is still up there. What an awesome view from the top.

The early bird did not get the worm today. Was on the summit well before the crowd today but did not go after the cache because of the snow/sleet that was coming down. Had I jut ridden it out for 20 minutes the sun came on and it turned out to be a nice day. Should have just hung out longer, oh well.
