From the Time when kids had to walk uphill both ways in a blizzard to get to school, the Yuma County Historical Society has set out to locate and mark as many old schools as possible

The town of Friend was incorporated in July of 1887. It is quite possible that the school was established soon after that. Articles about the town of Friend mention that the settlers got together and built a school that was used for a place of worship and a meeting hall. I wonder if it is possible that the first school may have been a sod schoolhouse that was built in the town and later the school moved to Section 16 about 1 mile north of the location where the town was.

We are heading north on a 3 week road trip to Lead, S.D. the first week. We have watched these FTFs for weeks so these are our targeted caches today. If we have time, we will get others along the way. This will be a long day today but hopefully a good day. Thanks for placing these caches for us to enjoy and for our {FTF} addiction!
