The cache spot

Located near the Big Cimarron campground in the Uncompaghre National Forest
The cache is located in a 50 mm ammo box. The original contents include a log book, a New Testament Bible, a rubber "Navy" ball, a flower lei, a rubber hotdog, 3 flower pens, a glow stick, a snake, a basketball hacky sack, a sports key chain, a small dog, a shell, a plastic action figure knife, a fishing lure, a train statue, a bouncy ball, a small squirt gun, and a duct-tape ball. This cache was placed by our youth group while on our annual camping trip. The log book is signed by all the members on the camping trip.

A foot crossing of the river is not necessary unless you want a real adventure in the Fall or early Spring. You can enter a trailhead on the North side of the river, across the bridge, through an iron gate.

I think we found where it was supposed to be, but nothing there. If you go looking, wear pants! We got scraped up going over fallen trees and when we got to the coordinates,it was a soggy, boggy, buggy mess.

While Gander fished, Goose crossed the road with Katie Geodog, went through the trail gate and started hiking up the trail. When we started, the GPS'r said it was 3/10 mile. It popped down to 2/10 and we continued to climb, climb, climb. It just would not pop down anymore so we started back down and took a trail off of the main one because the GPS compass kept pointing toward the river. That trail ended at a meadow where there were some cows. We started traipsing through the meadow and still no downward movement on the GPS. We thought it would be fun to find a cache that hasn't been found since October of last year and it just wasn't going to happen. There was a lot of whining about not finding the cache when we met up with Gander who was hiking up towards us. Sigh....Frown

Our first family Geocaching trip and we found it! When you go through the iron gate continue to go uphill. For some reason we had it in our head it was lower and close to the river. This made for lots of rough terrain, crossing fallen trees, foot streams and than a nice steep hike up hill. Luckily once uphill we were literally right at our spot. The box was fairly easy to find and still in good shape. It still contains a little brown Bible which makes me wonder if it is the last of the original content. The actual trail back down was easy. Take bug spray and wear long pants lots of nettles in the area. Thank you for the cache. As mentioned in a few of the other logs, the cache is no longer in the fallen tree but is very close by. My husband marked it with his GPS and I will add coordinates later. :-)
We found it!

We are visiting friends in Delta Colorado. We took a great road trip today from Montrose to Cerro Summit, along Cimmeron road and back over Owl Creek Pass to Ridgway. The fall colors were spectacular. Contents really need new baggies, since the container is not sealing well. Also my GZ point was on top of the root end of a fallen tree. It is rotting and very unstable. Don't look there, it is within about 12 feet on more solid ground. tftc
