Dang! Got within .14 mile but trail was too narrow and too much of a drop off for us to continue. Really wanted this one too! Enjoyed the 6 1/2 mile hike up Upper Cascade Falls!

I have been wanting to do this trail for the past 2 years. Great hike and view but I didn't find the cache because I used the coordinates listed. I didn't know about the previous log entry changing the coordinates. The next time I hike this trail I will use the log coordinates. The Ouray/Silverton area is my favorite vacation destination.

I've wanted to make the hike to the Chief Ouray Mine site for a long time, so we planned an overnight in Ouray so I could get a really early start up the trail and take advantage of the early morning coolness. I had seen sjclimber's notes on the cache page so contacted dirtbiker273 (the Cache Owner) in advance of the trip to get clarification on the locational/coordinates issue, and I'm grateful for her fast response. I promised to report back on my findings, which I've done.

The originally-listed coordinates were incorrect, placing GZ at a considerable distance from the location where the cache was actually placed (based on the description provided to me by the CO). Those listed coordinates ground out at a spot high above the actual locality, up steep, unsafe terrain. I went to the location described by dirtbiker273 and made a very thorough search and did not find a cache container. It had been hidden at a location where muggles interested in visiting the mine features would be certain to come to, and there are very few places there to adequately conceal a regular-size container. I had brought a replacement and hid it in a secure spot very near to the mine feature that had been described to me by dirtbiker273. With some work, I was able to conceal it well, and it should last a long time there without accidental discovery by non-cachers. Cachers should find it quickly, however. I took photos of the hide location and have sent them to the Owner.

The coordinates of the cache are N 38 01.809 W 107 39.463. Getting to and finding this cache is a neat adventure, one that cachers should consider and enjoy!! Thanks, dirtbiker273, for placing this cache and for answering my question. The history of this mine is fascinating to review, and you got me here! It's exciting to get the {FTF} on such a lonely cache!
