You can see the Pacific from the Atlantic if you know where to stand.

Looking north from the summit of Atlantic Peak you have a great view of the Tenmile range. Pacific Peak is the next peak along the ridge and in the photo it is the highest peak toward the left side. It is followed by Crystal Peak and Peak 10 which are behind and to the right of it in the photo. Below Pacific Peak sits Pacific Tarn which is the highest named lake in the US. Both Atlantic and Pacific are Centennial Peaks meaning they are among the 100 highest peaks in the Rocky Mountains. Atlantic Peak is 13,841' tall and ranks as number 87 on the list. Pacific is 13,950' and is ranked number 61.

The cache is a small otterbox type container a little way from the true summit of Atlantic Peak. Coins and small TBs will fit but not much else. Please see the spoiler photo and carefully rehide the cache so it will not be visible.

08/01/2013 Update: Please note a recent cacher had difficulty with the cache since his GPS kept pointing him over the edge to the west. It's on top and easily accessible once you get to the summit. PLEASE bring the spoiler photo. If you get better coords let me know.

Congrats to FTF: RDAD

Hiked up today from the west side - I had climbed this peak a very long time ago when it was UN 13,xxx,
and again a year or so ago while caching, but forgot the spoiler photo. Found the well hidden cache at last, and can replace my frustration with a smiley. Thanks for nicely placed cache and container, and bringing me back up here again.

Our loop today started from Mayflower Gulch, went over Atlantic, then to Pacific, down the endless boulders on Pacific's Northwest side, and finally back to Pacific Creek. After the boulder scrambling coming down from Pacific, the grassy, wildflower filled Pacific Creek bowl sure was welcome.

When we first arrived at the top of Atlantic, we were afraid that all the snow up there might be covering the cache. As we got closer, it became obvious that the cache was clear. We really relied on the picture to find the right location.

We were alone on Atlantic. We could see a couple of people on top of Pacific and the maddening crowd on top of Quandary.

On a couple of occasions WingsAndTales has urged me to log a find on this cache, even though I have not officially signed the cache log. I've thought about it, and have decided to do so. I made the hike to the summit of Atlantic Peak in July, my second summit of this fine peak. The first was during a long January climb years ago, when in an extremely long day I made snow climbs of Crystal, Pacific, and Atlantic Peaks. A summer climb is a lot easier, I discovered in July! A complication arose, and I did not actually locate the cache container. Clarifications have since been made on the cache page by WingsAndTales, to preclude recurrence of the situation I experienced. Thanks for placing this cache in such a magnificent setting, and for encouraging me to log it!

Great spot for a cache! I was part of the party that hiked up to hide it.

Ernie66 and I were hiking with the CO when she planted this cache. She offered us the opportunity to place the cache ourselves, but Ernie had plans for Pacific and I didn't like the idea of cache maintenance up there. Spectacular spot for a high cache and a great workout :-)
