This is one of the caches in a series of caches dedicated to Fallen Flag railroads. Fallen Flags are those railroads that no longer exist either through abandonment or corporate takeover. With each cache will come a short history lesson explaining a little something about the railroad.

LSP&L are the initials of the London, South Park, and Leadville railroad. It was a narrow gauge line (3’ between the rails) that ran between London Junction (Alma Junction) and the North London Mill, a distance of about 7 miles.

The purpose of this railroad was to take freight cars loaded with ore from the North London Mill to the DSP&P interchange at London Junction for transport to Denver. It existed from about 1882 to 1900 but it's operation was sporadic. It got into financial difficulty almost immediately and, in 1885, it was reorganized as the South Park & Leadville Short Line Railroad. In 1897 the north entrance to the London mine was closed and a south entrance was delevoped which rendered the railroad unnecessary.

Note that you can see the old railroad grade on both side of the county road. You do not need to go on to private property to get this cache.

We are staying in Keystone for the Independence Day weekend. Yesterday we cached around Hoosier path, but I didn't have Alma area caches loaded to my phone, and coverage was too slow, even in Fairplay, to download caches in the field.

So last night I downloaded Alma area and after watching the kids (and grownup dad type kids) fishing derby we headed back to Alma, with the primary goal of some Caching South Park caches.

We went by here a couple of times trying to figure out how to get to CSP Mosquito Pass Road. I even walked down the old roadbed a ways to see if it was going the right direction. It wasn't. Then after getting CSP Mosquito Pass Road I thought to look and see if there was a cache here. Quick grab. Next cacher may need a tetanus shot. It really snuggled down in there.

Signed the log KAJW. Took nothing. Left nothing. Thanks for the cache!
