We came across a fun cache located here. As it turns out the cache was retired shortly after we found it. We frequent the trails and roads nearby and while we were hunting a nearby cache, we discovered the container from this original cache was still hanging out as we last left it. So we decided to bring it back to life!
This is a year around accessible cache in a great area to 4 wheel drive, hike, cycle, snowshoe or nordic ski. Gates are fun to swing on, so this mini cache takes advantage of swinging. It's a log only, BYOP. No need to remove the cache, you'll see why, please swing it back into place and hide.
Entering the area, you will see a yellow caution sign. The 10th Mountain Division trained nearby for WWII, lodging at Camp Hale. The sign cautions not to touch unknown items that could harm or kill you and actions to take if you find something. Please read. There is a nearby 10th Mountain Division Hut that is available for overnight stays both winter and summer while hiking, biking, skiing the nearby Colorado Trail!
In the winter months you will be forced to park further down the trail due to the snow. It's a beautiful scene to snowshoe or nordic. In summer/fall you can drive all the way up with a high clearance vehicle or park lower and hike.
Congratulations COpackrat on the FTF!!
