This cache is at an attractive turn-around point for an out and back hike on the Bowman’s Shortcut trail. The hike is easy to moderate - 1.5 hours out at a very moderate pace and about a one hour return. The elevation gain is about 1200 to 1300 feet and very suitable for families.
Directions to the Trail Head
Drive to the Vail Pass summit rest area off the I70 and take the Shrine Pass road (No. 709) toward Redcliff for about 4 miles. You will be driving past the Shrine Ridge parking area and a fairly large sign on your right for a Holy Cross viewpoint. Shortly after the latter, take a right on the Lime Creek road (see photo First Sign) and proceed about .5 miles to a fork. Take the left side and the Trail Head will be evident on your right after a short .1 miles (see photo Trail Head) Don’t worry about the Two Elk reference, you aren’t going to have to go that far!! The road is usually ok for 2wd vehicles.

Hiking Cues
The trail is well defined. You might encounter some small snow banks until mid-July, but these are easy to bypass or slush through!! Stay on the trail until you break out of the woods and enter a meadow on the ridge crest. You will have to hike off trail to the cache. You will be rewarded by an amazing panorama of the Gore Range and a perfect site for a picnic lunch. See View photo.

The Cache
The cache is a filled with Canadian keychains, Canadian bookmarks, Canadian pins, Canadian...well, you get the idea. Please plan on trading your American or International trinkets for something from the cache...we will replace as necessary.

Wow, first to log in 2015!. What a beautiful spot! After I found the cache, I introduced a friend to the basics of geocaching. Cache contents in good shape. Bowman's has always been one of my favorite hikes. TFTC!

Only one of the 4CanAms made this find today. Only sprinkled a short time. Everything looks great.

Our idea of the perfect cache! A great hike to a beautiful location. Found the cache with no problems. t- canada/usa pin, l- flashing BudLite pin (hey we know Canadians love beer!). After finding the cache, found a log to sit on and enjoy the views when a BADGER came up behind us. I'm not too sure who was surprised the most. Went over to the Bowman Shortcut post and that's when we heard thunder in the distance and decided to high tail it down.
Thanks for a great cache!

Our second attempt...a year ago it started to snow on us as we made our way up the mountain in September so we had to turn back. This time, success! Beautiful 360 view.

Wow what a great spot for a cache! Views in all directions. When I arrived at the area there were actually muggles about 30 feet from the cache! I said hi and walked up the hill and sat for a while until they left the area. Found the cache easily enough, did not bring anything to trade. I would highly recommend this cache to anyone who likes to hike, tftc!
