First cache in my NGS Benchmark series.
I wanted to make a series to show geocachers more of our nation's benchmarks. Though they can be found in every county in the continental U.S. benchmarks are are just another little known survey tool to the public. But when you look on the NGS site or Geocaching.com you can see every detail about them. There is also description for each that tells exactly where they are. These descriptions interest me the most, at times you have to wonder where in the world did the railroad track go that was 50 feet from a certain benchmark years ago. I hope that this series gives a historical insight to geocachers of what our country looked like in the years past.

Today @WindAtMyBack and I traveled through evening rush hour traffic to Monument, Colorado, to grab a bunch of caches. This is a great time of year and Monument is a beautiful place to witness the openness of mother nature. I know that phone reception is spotty out here, so we downloaded a list. During our journey we saw one garter snake, several hawks, crows, and a bunch of smaller birds. The weather was moderated with a very light, occasional rain and constant cloud cover. Great weather for caching.
I love it when things just work out. I wasn't planning on doing this multi. But when we were near it I read the description and saw that part of it was already in my plans. We grabbed the coords and made the quick find. Well done. TFTC!

Wow was that almost an exercise in futility. I had found the referenced stage one cache several years ago & thought I had entered the correct coordinates into my phone. Finally got back here but a pretty good snow cover had us baffled so I went back to the other cache & found out I had entered the wrong coordinates & we were only at the BM! Fix that mistake & the cache was soon in hand. Brrrrrr

Had no problem with the traditional 1st stage and was soon on my way to this one. Decided to walk instead of trying to reposition the truck. There was a lot of traffic along this road today and I was looking back a lot to make sure I gave myself enough clearance in between each vehicle.

Before arriving at the final coordinates, I was able to come across the benchmark that the cache is centered around. I made sure to get a good picture with that as well, I wish discovering those was easier through the Geocaching site.

The cache was a fast find and I'm thankful for that because today was a cold one. Even dressed properly for the weather, I still felt the walk back to the truck. Winter is definitely around the corner.

TFTC SL!

Today Trea and I are grabbing as many caches we can in the Colorado Springs Area. We just got back from a week long roadtrip to Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota and Montana and figured we would stay local and pick up some numbers. THANK Tom.dog FOR PLACING THE CACHE FOR US TO FIND!!! September 23, 2017 1:51 PM 9296

Happy 4th of July! Took a little while to find the benchmark because I didn't really read the directions (oops)...but was eventually successful. Thanks for placing this multi!
