In the cache title there isn't a space between "and" and "the"; I ran out of allowable space.

The cache is NOT at the above coordinates, but you will probably pass through that spot on your way to the cache.

Terrain rating is based on hiking; it will be lower if you use one of those new-fangled bicycles like in the movie.

BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN THE LETTER CODE ON THE LID OF THE CONTAINER, AND IN THE FRONT OF THE LOGBOOK (SAME CODE) WHICH IS USED IN THE “CLASSIC MOVIES" FINAL CACHE which is linked below.

Welcome to the sixth Classic Movies cache by the 3 Williams Kidz geo-team. The idea is that you will have to watch the movie to get the answers to the questions below; there are one, maybe two exceptions, for trivia’s sake. Since the entire script is available – and easily “searchable” -- online, I have tried to come up with questions that you cannot answer by searching the Internet, so some of these questions are pretty obscure.

Here are all the geocaches in the Classic Movies series:

1. Casablanca

2. The Great Escape

3. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

4. Cool Hand Luke

5. Patton

6. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

7. The Godfather

8. High Noon

9. The Wizard of Oz

10. Gone With the Wind

And the FINAL cache: Classic Movies FINAL cache

If you are willing to watch one of Hollywood’s finest classic movies, get the TV and video player ready, maybe pop some popcorn, and have a pen and paper ready to answer the below questions, which are NOT IN THE ORDER they are presented in the film (just one part of the difficulty rating).

The cache is located at North AB CD.EFG West HIJ KL.MNO

Latitude:

A: What is Butch's real name, according to actor Paul Newman? If Butch Cassidy, A=2. If Robert Leroy Parker, A=3. If Henry James Johnson, A=4.

B: “Hey, Kid -- How good are ya?” If Sundance (Robert Redford) is right handed, B=8. If he is left handed, B=9.

C: At the end of the bike ride, Butch and Etta (Katharine Ross) return to her house; they hug and kiss, and Sundance comes out of the house and asks: "What are ya doin'?" Butch replies: "Stealin' yer woman." Etta has a flower in her hair. If the flower is yellow, C=0. If the flower is green, C=1. If the flower is red, C=2.

D: In the sepia-tone (old timey) still photograph montage of Butch, Sundance and Etta going to Bolivia, we see the name of a railroad they take on the side of a building. The railroad is the New-York and … WHAT? If PHILADELPHIA R.R., D=7. If HARLEM R.R., D=8. If SYRACUSE R.R., D=9.

E: The Hole in the Wall Gang robs "The Flyer" for the first time; the train is Union Pacific, and has three digits in the train number. The first digit is E.

F: In the sepia-tone (old timey) still photograph montage of Butch, Sundance and Etta going to Bolivia, we see them on a Coney Island Cable Car. The number of the cable car has three digits. The sum of the three digits is F.

G: The train that the Hole in the Wall Gang robs more than once is "The Flyer". The full name of the train is what? If the Cross Country Flyer, G=2. If the Western Flyer, G=3. If the Overland Flyer, G=4.

Longitude:

H: What is the Sundance Kid’s real name, according to Robert Redford? If Harry Longbaugh, H=1. If Henry Stimson, H=2.

I: Butch takes Etta Place for a ride on the bicycle; early in the song, they reach up and pull something off of a tree. If it is an apple, I=0. If it is a flower, I=1. If it is a bunch of leaves, I=2.

J: Etta says "… I won't watch you die; I'll miss that scene if you don't mind." In the following scene, both Butch and Sundance are wearing bowler hats that are what color? If light brown, J=3. If black, J=4. If white, J=5.

K: The posse is being formed (not very successfully) to go after The Hole in the Wall Gang after they robbed the train the first time; Butch and Sundance are watching the sheriff trying to get the posse together. What are they both drinking? If champagne, K=3. If sasparilla, K=4. If beer, K=5.

L: Butch is in the home of Etta Place, reading the newspaper that tells who the people tracking Butch and Sundance really are. The number of oil lamps that are lit and lighting the room they are in is L.

M: Now in Bolivia and aboard the NACIONALES DE BOLIVIA train, Butch, Sundance and Etta arrive at the Santa Ines station, where they get off the train. The number of suitcases that Butch is carrying is M.

N: Butch and Sundance both ride on one horse, in an attempt to confuse their pursuers (who ARE those guys?). While Butch and Sundance are on a ridge top, you can clearly see that there are 6 pursuers total by the lights/lanterns they are carrying (each is carrying one). The number of pursuers that split off and follow Sundance’s horse, but then rejoin the main group is N.

O: What is the name of the first bank that Butch and Sundance walk into in Bolivia (which they do not rob -- at least not YET)? If BANCO DE BOLIVIA CENTRAL, O=6. If BANCO DE LA PAZ, O=7. If BANCO DE LOS ANDES S.A., O=8. If BANCO DE NACIONALE, O=9.

Hope you enjoyed the movie, and this puzzle ! If you have your solution, check it for accuracy at GeoChecker.com

CONGRATULATIONS to Tom.dog for FTF -- he watched the movie, solved the puzzle, and got the cache (as it was getting dark at night) -- all in the same day!

Some trivia, from The Internet Movie Database, at www.imdb.com:

The filmmakers tried to get Bob Dylan to sing Burt Bacharach's famous song for the movie. He declined.

Dustin Hoffman was considered for the role of Butch Cassidy.

On the first day of shooting, involving the train robbery scenes, Katharine Ross came to the set to watch. There were five cameras and only four operators, so the DP put her on the extra camera. He showed her how to operate it, and how to move it to get her shot. Director George Roy Hill was furious, but said nothing the whole day. At the end of the day, however, he banned her from the set except when she was working.

Katharine Ross enjoyed shooting the silent, bicycle riding sequence best, because it was handled by the film crew's second unit rather than the director. She said, "Any day away from George Roy Hill was a good one." (This was after she had been scolded and banned from the set for operating a camera.)

Paul Newman did his own bicycle stunts, after his stunt man was unable to stay on the bike, except for the scene where Butch crashes backwards into the fence, which was performed by cinematographer Conrad L. Hall.

The more commonly used name for Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid's gang was The Wild Bunch. However, when the Sam Peckinpah film, The Wild Bunch, was released a few months earlier, the name of the gang was changed to the Hole in the Wall Gang to avoid confusion with Peckinpah's film.

According to screenwriter William Goldman, his screenplay originally was entitled "The Sundance Kid and Butch Cassidy." Both Steve McQueen and Paul Newman read the script at approximately the same time, and agreed to do it, with McQueen playing the Sundance Kid. When McQueen dropped out, the names reversed in the title, as Newman was a superstar.

Other actors that were under consideration for the role of Sundance were Steve McQueen and Warren Beatty. McQueen withdrew due to billing disagreements, and Beatty declined as he found the film too similar to Bonnie and Clyde.

Jack Lemmon turned down the role of Sundance because of a scheduling conflict with The Odd Couple.

This movie was filmed roughly the same time as Hello, Dolly!, on the sound stage next door. Director George Roy Hill believed that the studio would allow him to film the New York scenes on "Dolly's" sets, since the two films' daily shooting schedules were totally different. After production started, though, the studio informed him that it wanted to keep the sets for "Dolly" a secret and so refused him permission. To work around this, Hill had Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Katharine Ross simply pose on the sets and took photos of them. He then inserted images of the three stars into a series of 300 actual period photos and spliced the two different sets (real and posed) together to form the New York montage.

All the Bolivia scenes were filmed in Mexico, where almost the entire cast and crew, and the director, came down with Montezuma's Revenge (severe diarrhea caused by drinking Mexico's notoriously polluted water). Only Robert Redford, Paul Newman and Katharine Ross were spared, because they refused to drink the water catered on the set and stuck to drinking soda and alcohol for the duration of the shoot.

The river jump was shot at the studio's Century Ranch near Malibu, CA. Paul Newman's and Robert Redford's stuntmen actually jumped off of a construction crane by Century Lake. The crane was obscured by a matte painting of the cliffs. Newman and Reford start the jump in Colorado, but only land on a mattress.

The true identity of the historical person known as "Etta Place" is unknown. Historians have many different theories, a popular one being that she was Fort Worth innkeeper Eunice Gray, who died in a fire in 1962.

Got an early start on hiking in Greenland Open Space before the heat of the day. This was actually our primary goal of the day. We watched all the movies and solved all the puzzles in this series and this is the first one we went looking for. It was our third find of the day. All good with the cache. Thanks 3WilliamsKids for the great puzzle series.

2:09 PM We are here from Dallas for our typical August vacation in Divide in order to skip the Texas heat for a couple of weeks.

Today we headed to Spruce Mountain and Meadow Open Space. We last hiked the mountain 10 years ago for the conclusion of a classic sparrowPI multicache. This time it's the Classic Movie series that is bringing us to the area. (About 12 miles of hiking today. Almost did in my wife. She was too exhausted to be really angry.)

This was the the movie puzzle I solved. We actually had to order this one from Netflix a few weeks ago. Good memories. I hadn't seen this movie since it was released. I sure had a crush on Katharine Ross back then. Sigh.

This location kind of fit the movie. I dropped off a W&T MayThe4th coin proxy that is in a collection, so it is discover only and does not show in the cache inventory. I can send you the tracking code if you haven't already discovered it.

I signed the log. Thanks, 3 Williams Kidz, for the cache.

A lot of fun watching the movie in detail to get the nuances to solve the puzzle. One of our all time favorite movies so it was a real pleasure. Decided to attack the find from the parking area at the southwest corner of the Greenland open space. A nice trail for the first 1.5 miles and then how to get to the cache through all of the scrub oak. I probably took the wrong way because there was a lot a scratchy brambles in the way over the last half mile. From the cache it appeared that you could walk right to it through grass from the east but that was about a mile further from the nearest trailhead. Anyhow, the find itself was easy and filled in another needed D/T grid. Only 8 to go now. SL After finding 2 other caches in the oak forest the round trip hike was 5.28 miles. Managed to beat the rain out. It really opened up a bit later as I was chasing another cache northeast of Colorado Springs. This certainly deserves a FAV

After having the final coordinates for some time, I finally got off my lazy duff, stopped watching movies; and hit the trail. I remember this movie when from I was a kid. Despite that it was released 4 years later, my first exposure to Redford and Newman was The Sting. While I have to admit I am a bigger fan of The Sting, this movie is ranked 49th on the American Film Institutes list of top 100 films, while also being selected for the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." In my defense, I would like to point out that The Sting won 7 Oscars compared to three for this film.

Regardless of the Oscar count, it was good to finally make the find today. I was great having to rewatch the film, because at age 10, you just don't think to count suitcases. Thanks to the CO for not only the fun hike and hunt, but giving me the ammunition to resist my wife telling me to get up off the couch by countering with "I'm doing hiking prep!" TFTC.

We had fun watching this movie again to get the clues for this cache. We were in the area this morning finding a few other caches so decided to grab this one as well. Signed the log and got the code for the final. Thanks for another fun classic movies cache!

TFTC, CB_Beauty and I made a trek to CS to whittle away a few more Classic Movie cache finds. We looked at this cache area the last time we were here and realized it was going to take longer than we had at the time. However, today we prevailed. Cool temps and a light breeze made the 2 hour hike enjoyable, easy path and gentle slopes. I like how the caches have trinkets in them related to each movie. I have to thank CBB for watching the movies and bringing me along for the hikes.
