A Brief History of the Site
This site used to be the location of the 7 Utes Lodge and M - M Camp for Boys. The M - M Camp for Boys was a summer camp only. In 1975, the name was changed to the 7 Utes Lodge and the facility was opened for year round guests.

Incidently, the lodge was open year round before Cameron Pass (Hwy 14) was paved. Cameron Pass was not passable in the winter. The 7 Utes Lodge owners would take a snowcat over Cameron Pass to pick-up guests. The guests were served champagne during the ride back to the lodge.

Some of the activites included snowmobiling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hunting, fishing, backpacking, horseback riding, target practice, archery, and just enjoying the peaceful Colorado mountains.

In the mid-1990's, the land was returned to public use. The 7 Utes Lodge buildings were auctioned off. However, there is one cabin still standing at the site. For those who remember the lodge, it was the craft shop.

How Do We Know All This
Our family used to own and run the 7 Utes Lodge and M - M Camp for Boys. This location holds many fond memories for both our family and past guests.

Temporarily Disable Listing 07/17/2018 By Heartland Cacher
Greetings I'm Heartland Cacher, one of the volunteer reviewers for new caches submitted to Geocaching.com.

This cache was brought to my attention by one or more of your fellow cachers that think this cache is missing and/or in need of maintenance. I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and I am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future. I'm temporarily disabling it, to give the owner the opportunity to check on the cache, and repair it, if necessary. Cache maintenance includes listing maintenance including updating any changes to the text, updating coordinates, removing needs maintenance attributes and enabling the listing. If the owner feels they will not be able to repair this in a timely manner, let me know, and I'll archive it. This will keep the cache from continually showing up in search lists. It can be enabled once you have made repairs. Please use the “Write Note” feature to leave notes on the cache page. Please do not use the "OWNER MAINTENANCE" log until you do the maintenance and the cache is ready to be found again.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to enable your cache, it will be no problem. You can re-enable the cache page http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=235 by clicking the link under the cache name or by checking the box that says the cache is active. You may also drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. If a "Needs Maintenance" log was posted, you will also need to log an "Owner Maintenance" log to clear the "Needs Maintenance" icon from the geocache page. http://support.groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=404

I look forward to hearing from you. Do not reply to this email. It is sent by a no-reply mailbot so I won't get it. To respond, please do NOT send me an e-mail or a message center conversation as they lack needed functionality for reviewing. Leave a new "Reviewer Note" log here on your cache page. If you're not familiar with this process, see the instructions https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=97&pgid=74. I have your cache on my watchlist, and I will receive a notification when you write your note. All reviewer notes are deleted when your cache is published.

Additionally, please note that if I've not heard from you in 4 weeks, I may be forced to archive this cache. Don't let your cache get archived for non-communication

Thanks for your understanding,
Heartland Cacher

I've have this cache on my ToDo list for a long time (probably before it was last found). We were looking at camping in the area, and when I checked on nearby caches, I recognized the name. Is there any hope that it is there?

Owner Maintenance 07/02/2017 By MeanderingMonkeys
Replaced Part 1. Looks like there has been some tree clearing in the area. Rest of the cache was in good shape.

Please check up on this one, its been a long while since the last find and I spent 30 min at GZ a couple of weeks ago with no luck.

Didn't find it 07/23/2016 By youkfish
Bummer, no luck knocking this one off the top of the lonley cache list. I doubt that I'm the first to look for this one in 6 years, but I will be the first to DNF it. Couldn't find anything at posted coords to get started.

Stopped to try this multi on our way from Firestone out to Craig (grabbing a few pages of the CO fuzzy). Had time to do the first 2 stages...just didn't have time to go for the final...Have the co-ords saved - will finish the next time we come thru!....Very nice cache!

Found it 11/02/2008 By Denali41
My puppy Teewinot and I left home really early this morning, expecting to make the tough climb of Tepee Mountain from the Silver Creek TH. But alas, after all that driving we found the high clearance road access to be totally iced. Fall-back plan: do some quality geocaches as we made our way home. This was the first of three good mountain caches, and was a great sequence. I enjoyed and appreciated it so much. It's clear that the lay-out/conceptualization took a bunch of time, and the hides of the first two stages were super. Thanks so much! [Oh, and an added bonus--the difficulty/terrain ratings are a combination I still needed for the Colorado Fizzy Challenge, so I scored well on this cache!]

Found with CAJ and Bacca on the first two legs.
Took three seperate days to finally get this one. CAJ fell into the Michigan River on the second leg trying to cross the river to cut the hike short. The hint of an earlier cacher about shorting the return works but should I believe say turn left while facing away from the cache site. By the way my wife and I are the only people to sign the log book this year even though someone else said they found it.
Round trip on the third leg was 2.7 miles. Enjoyed the hunt very much.
