Another in the series on the Silver Creek Trail in Georgetown, Colorado
This is one in a series of caches off the relatively unknown Silver Creek Trail in Georgetown Colorado This is a relatively flat trail that runs for approximately 5 miles from Georgetown to Lawson. The only detraction is the noise from I-70 below. It traverses wooded and open terrain and has some colorful aspen glades in the fall. It is an easy trail but if you bring small children exercise extreme caution since there are precipitous drop-offs in places. The trail follows an old mining shelf road that is now a single track. There are some mine ruins along the way. I have placed the caches very close to the trail since there are a lot of old unknown shafts that can be hazards. It is also a challenging mountain bike trail so watch out for bikers. I have given coordinates for the trailhead. There is limited parking just uphill of the trailhead that is accessible by two wheel drive cars up to this point. The trailhead is located just past a house at the end of what looks like a driveway but is actually a public right of way. You can also access the trail from the trailhead near GC1T5QF (Clear Creek Volvo). The trail from GC1T5QF is steep and somewhat rocky. Note that these caches are not accessible from the other Saxon Mountain Road caches.

This one is a little off the trail but it was just screaming for a cache. Using rock climbing terminology, it requires a short scramble up a solid third class slab or a second class scramble up a little loose gully. Be careful coming down since it is always easier to go up. Please replace cache as found. Decon container.

I looked under and around the burnt stump and did not find it. There are a couple over burnt stumps above it but that was not where the tracker was. Due to an injury, I wasn't able to go further up to look.

Hanging out in the Georgetown area this morning grabbing a few caches. I parked at the cemetery and bushwacked up to the cache. There is supposed to be a trail near the cemetery, but I couldn't find it! I hiked to all three caches, then walked out to the little trailhead with the two car parking lot, then walked the road back to the cemetery. I ended up with 4.4 miles, and really love this Silver Creek Trail! All three of these caches were in great shape - which is amazing - since it's been almost three years since this one has been found. The little scramble to the cache wasn't bad at all, after bushwacking up from the cemetery!

Yes, this one was definitely the most challenging of the series, but it was the last so I had to do the scramble up the gully. Watch hanging on to the rock as it will easily crack off. I hiked a total of 6.2 miles from the TH on Alvarado Rd. up to the Saxon Rd. TH in Georgetown, back east to this cache (surprisingly, you are actually going slightly up as you go east!) and back to my car. It was a fun and pretty easy hike and I am NOT an avid hiker. Now as I travel I-70 I can look up at the rock walls & know there is an active trail up there!
