A quick cache off the bike path between Georgetown and Silver Plume
Colorado.
I went about defining the coordinates for this cache a little
differently. I used the Google Map satellite view to identify the
coordinates of a feature in the image. The waypoint listed is the Google Map location. The coordinates listed for the cache are my GPS coordinates. Coordinate identification is a relatively new addition for Google. If you look up the geolocation accuracy of the imaging satellites (see the links below) used by Google the specifications say they are on the order of 5m at nadir. I was wondering how well that carried through to what you get on your computer screen. You may want to look at Google Maps outside of Geocaching.com to see the feature I picked since the geocache icon may
obscure it. Once you know what you are looking for go find the cache. Please log your gps coordinates with your find. Once we get enough points I'll average them and compare them to the Google map coordinates. You can access this path from the Georgetown Loop Railroad parking lot (I did it by bicycle). You can also access this from the rest area off I-70 heading toward Denver from Silver Plume. There is another cache at the rest area. There is no need to step onto the slope to retrieve this cache. You can reach it from flat ground. There is a steep hill feet from the cache so keep kids back. Put the rolled log in the cap first before screwing on the bottom. There is also a great view of a waterfall and he railroad across the valley. http://www.digitalglobe.com/index.php/82/Content+Collection+Systems

I started my 24 mile bike ride up to Loveland and back in Georgetown. I went 400 feet past this cache on the way up before I noticed that I has passed it. I went back and found it fairly quickly at 9:46 am. Thanks for the cache and for making my route more fun!

I was at Silver Plume picking up a few final caches at dusk & couldn't figure out how to get to the bike trail. So I got on the interstate & that's where I figured out the on ramp is the beginning of the bike trail. This would be OK on a bike but a little close to traffic walking, especially if you had a dog, which I did. I knew where the scenic pull off was & thought I would stop there & see how far away the cache was & how easily I could get to the trail. I noticed it was a doable distance before it was completely dark so up the trail I went with the geo dog, but boy is it CLOSE to those big semis & speeding cars with a fence & drop off to the railroad on the other side! I kept thinking what would happen if one of them would jump the guardrail & I thought they would just mean my time was UP! Fortunately it was a bit better where the cache was located so I found it quickly and hoofed it back to the car just as darkness fell.

Parked at the Georgetown railroad, and hiked up the bikepath. I ended up walking 2.2 miles. It's a little bit of a noisy walk with the freeway, but great views. My gps went from 25 to 35 feet for gz. Thanks!
