Shane had just picked up his pay after spending six long months in the saddle herding cattle for the K-D Ranch near Arriola. He had a healthy sum of nearly $400 in his poke and he knew that word was out that all the cowboys from the K-D outfit had just been paid. Shane decided to take his pay and put it in a bank for safe keeping. He heard there was a new bank east of Cortez. He would put his money there.

Shane rode straight toward the bank, skirting Cortez with all the saloons and gambling that may tempt him to stop for a cool drink and poker games.

Shane heard shots when he rode up to the bank, and saw two desperados exiting the door with a satchel in tow. Their revolvers were drawn and smoke was coming from the barrels. The taller of the two men, with fire in his eyes, swung his pistol at Shane. Without hesitation, Shane pulled his .44 and shot the desperado in the shoulder causing the owlhoot to drop his gun.

The second bank robber, a short grubby man, swung into his saddle and started to high tail it down the trail to the east. Shane kicked his horse into a gallop and chased the robber who was nearly out of sight. About a mile from the bank, the thief dropped the satchel of money. Shane took the money back to the bank where bank employee Miss Debbie D snatched it from him and smirked without offering a word of thanks. Shane decided to use another bank further up the trail.

Heavy leaf fall may have hidden this cache or the previous finder may have placed it somewhere other than where Cowboy put it. Never-the-less, Cowboy placed another cache in the same location as the first and this cache should not be too difficult to find.

We are making our way to Durango for a restful night after having our 4 year old grand twins for 5 days. Time went by quickly by teaching them how to cache, they are nuts about it! Good to have that bargaining chip!
Looked in what seems to.be one of cowboys favorite hosts....not this cache today!
