This quiet picnic area overlooks the drainage for Jefferson Lake and the remnants of the rockslide that first formed the lake. Water from this lake is owned by the City of Aurora down on the Front Range.

Take County Road 54 north from Jefferson until the paved road ends. Turn right on to CR 37 and follow the road to the Jefferson Lake Recreation Area. A $6 fee is charged per vehicle to enter the area. Continue up for the main road towards the lake, which turns into a paved road as it starts to climb. There is a turnoff available just before the cache site or you can park in the angler parking area by the lake and walk back down the road. Please use caution on the road and at the overlook.

Found it - #1238 - on road trip to western states from Illinois - I used to fish up here back in the days I lived in Conifer - the road was not paved and it was much harder to get up here back then - it was also free - camping for the week at Aspen Campground - saw 4 moose along the road - still love this area - tftc

Visited on Labor Day. Our four pair of eyes, iPhone app, and GPS didn't find it. I hope to be back to try again next summer.

TFTF! Awesome picnic location! Didn't have to look too hard to find this one. The kids really enjoyed it. Left a gold token and a slinky.
