Windy Ridge is home to the Bristlecone Pine Scenic Area, a designation received in 1964 to honor the Rocky Mountain Bristlecone Pine trees that have grown on this ridge for over 800 years. The road leading to Windy Ridge takes you through several mining sites including Mineral Park. From the ridge you can look south and view much of South Park.

This cache is located just outside the Bristlecone Pine Scenic Area on Windy Ridge . Take County Road 8 (Buckskin Road) west from Alma to the Paris Mill. Turn right at the sign for Windy Ridge and follow the road through Mineral Park to the parking area on the ridge. The Windy Ridge Road is in poor condition in some locations but some passenger cars may be able to drive up and park at Mineral Park. 4WD/high clearance vehicles can continue directly up to the ridge. Be sure to walk over to the ridge and view the bristlecones after finding the cache!

So glad we did the hike in and walked to the ridge. The most amazing trees we’ve ever seen. Snow left the road impassable. Great cache.

Thxs for another South Park geotour cache. the coords were spot on & there is lots of space on this log for future finds. SL. Our Garmin said 11,765 ft. We had been up to see the bristlecones when we first moved to Colorado but was not caching then.

We finally made it to Windy Ridge... they say the third time's a charm! At the mine we got stuck trying to get the Subaru past the rutted, steep hill and had to cautiously back down and park at the flat area. We then walked the 1/2 mile or so uphill to the Bristlecones. It was worth every oxygen-deprived breath we took, the view & pine trees were amazing!
Quick find, everything is doing well here. Thanks SPNHA for highlighting this spectacular area, doubt we would have heard about it any other way.
