The aptly named Boreas Pass rests at 11,492 feet along the Continental Divide north of Como. The route over the pass began with foot traffic as miners traversed the mountains separating Breckenridge from South Park but was later widened to a wagon road. Boreas Pass gained eventual notoriety in the 1880s when the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad laid narrow gauge tracks along the road to connect Como and Breckenridge. The harsh winters proved to be difficult so several snow sheds and snow fences were constructed along the line and eventually a small settlement formed to serve the railroad. Boreas lost its post office in 1905, the station burned in 1934, and rail service was discontinued soon after. Today, you can still visit the Section house and rent out its cabins during the winter.

Follow the only paved road through Como (Boreas Pass Road/County Road 33) for approximately 4 miles, then turn right to stay on CR 33, just past Roberts Cabin. The road to Boreas Pass is passable by most vehicles and parking is available at the top. Please use existing use trails when searching for this cache. Boreas Pass Road is generally open from June to February.

Took a three pass drive today to find Colorado gold before it's gone for another year. The top of the pass has always held a special place in my heart. In the late 60's or early 70's my mother bought a mining claim in a tax auction up here "somewhere", and we spent many days over many years hiking the surrounding area trying to find it. GPS didn't exist of course when the old claims were made, and the description of the claim area was from 100 years ago. I'm not sure we ever really found it - although my mother thought we did - but we had a great time looking for it and I cherish that time together. While up here, I looked for a rock that I took a picture of my mom sitting on. It either got moved in all the decorating and updating, or the willows have grown too high for me to see it. My how things have changed! This cache was a quick find today. Cache and contents are in good shape. Took nothing, left yen, signed log. Thank you SPNHA for placing this cache for learning and playing!

We made the short hike to this cache. It took a few turns around until I finally spotted it. TFTC!

Quick find as the evening was setting in eerily alone, but a rainbow in the sky when I turned around

We decided to explore Boreas Pass today and...wow! My car might not have appreciated it, but what spectacular scenery. Amazing to find a box car so high in the sky! We wandered back, and fortunately my sharp-eyed junior cacher spotted it. Thank you for bringing us to such a remarkable place! TFTC.

Working on some more of the CSP series with Wall77, Ghostiegal and KSgator. We started it Monday, but got run out of the area by the fires. Roads were closed so we could not get to the caches. Most of the roads were open today, but we still could not get to some of them. Signed log WOGG. TFTC
