Katharine Lee Bates wrote the poem "America the Beautiful" after a visit to the summit of Pikes Peak, come see the views that inspired her!!

PIKES PEAK COLORADO!

There are three ways to get to the top of Pikes Peak Two of the three have a fee: Drive the Pikes Peak Highway ($) this is the recommended way, The Pikes Peak COG Railroad ($$), and you can also Hike to the top via the Barr Trail a 26 mile round trip class 1 hike, this is the only free way!

O beautiful for spacious skies, North For amber waves of grain, For Thirty Eight purple mountain majesties Above the fruited plain five! America! America! God shed his grace on thee one And crown thy good with brotherhood From four sea to shining six sea! O beautiful for pilgrim four feet Whose stern impassioned stress A thoroughfare of freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God mend thine every flaw, Confirm thy soul in self-control, Thy liberty in law! O beautiful for west heroes proved In liberating strife one zero five. Who more than self their country loved zero And mercy more than three life! America! America! May God thy gold refine Till all success be nobleness And every nine gain divine! O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee And crown thy good with brotherhood From zero sea to shining sea! O beautiful for halcyon skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties Above the enameled plain! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till souls wax fair as earth and air And music-hearted sea! O beautiful for pilgrims feet, Whose stem impassioned stress A thoroughfare for freedom beat Across the wilderness! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till paths be wrought through wilds of thought By pilgrim foot and zero knee! O beautiful for glory-tale Of liberating strife When once and twice, for man's avail Men lavished precious life! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till selfish gain no longer stain The banner of the free! O beautiful for patriot dream That sees beyond the years Thine alabaster cities gleam Undimmed by human tears! America! America! God shed his grace on thee Till nobler men keep once again Thy whiter jubilee!

Greetings from your neighbors in Kansas! This is Day 2 of our holiday getaway. My sweet man, who is a muggle, and I are heading to Victor for a few days. On the way, we stopped in Colorado Springs to nab the webcam cache and a few virtuals and earthcaches. Then it was on to Garden of the Gods and Pike's Peak. We parked nearby, and I made the short hike to GZ. Loved the puzzle. Many thanks.

We've visited Pikes Peak many times, but never since we started geocaching. Today was an ideal one to drive up to the summit. Perfect skies allowed us to see forever. Thankfully, I had solved this puzzle before our trip, and GZ was easy to visit along the way today. Felt kind of lucky to find it as quick as I did. TFTC!

Solved this one at home before we came on vacation. Nice little walk but nothing is easy at over 12000 ft elevation.

On a Fall trip through Colorado doing some caching and seeing the sites. A beautiful scenic drive through Rocky Mountain National Park. Visiting the downtown areas of Boulder, Denver, Castle Rock and Colorado Springs to name a few. We enjoyed a beautiful hike on the Barr trail at the Summit of Pikes Peak. It was a wonderful trip with quite a bit of caching thrown in along the way.
We arrived at the entrance this morning and were second in line. When the ranger came by to talk with us they recommended we go straight to the top as there was an 80% chance of snow. We took her advice. We had sun on the way up and during our hike then the clouds rolled in and we endured snow, hail, sleet and rain on the way down. This made for an interesting day of caching with all the stops, but we survived and had fun. Thanks for placing this one.

Traveling in Colorado this weekend with Dagrandpa. The priority for the day was to attend an event at the top of Pike's Peak. We did some caching while traveling to and from the peak. Thanks to all the COs. By the way, there was snow at the peak. Caching was not always pleasant today.
