This is the most honest sign I've seen ever!

To prevent archiving and relisting this cache, it has been changed to a multi-cache but originally listed as regular.

To access this cache head west on Hwy 34, turn north-west (right) on Country RD 43 near drake, and make the first right (north) onto FS Road 128 (Storm Mtn). Stay on FS 128 as to not venture into private property, the road is well marked so you will be able to find your way.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN THE COMING YEARS DUE TO THE BEETLE KILL TREES, THEY ARE GETTING TO THE POINT OF FALLING AND COULD AT ANY TIME!! This is a seasonal access geocache. Only accessable during June through December (maybe).

KNOWLEDGE OF UTMs WOULD HELP IN FINDING THIS GEOCACHE. THE SECOND STAGE MAY REQUIRE USE OF THEM SHOULD YOU SO DESIRE.

One can complete the second stage before ever leaving their home base and confirm their guess before trying on their own. Knowledge of How to use UTM's and Maps & Compasses can be useful to find this cache..

Footnotes on Compasses:
When using a compass in the field, it is very important to be careful when taking the measurement and when converting between field and map bearings. An error of five degrees in reading accuracy will result in a position error of about 150 yards after one mile of travel.
East Declination: The declination is East (9.5°) thus magnetic north is greater than true north the map bearing is greater than the field bearing. You need to make the two worlds equivalent by adding or subtracting the declination.

  • Map Bearing to Magnetic Bearing: If you are taking a bearing from one point on your map to another point on the map with respect to true north, then you are working with the map bearing. Now you want to figure out where your position is in the magnetic bearing. In order to transfer this information back to your magnetic bearing you need to subtract the declination from your map bearing compass bearing to create the proper magnetic bearing bearing. Map bearing - Declination = Magnetic Bearing.
  • Magnetic Bearing to Map Bearing: If you use your compass to take a bearing from your current position to a point on the landscape, then you are working with the magnetic bearing. Now you want to figure out where your position is on the map. In order to transfer this information back to your map you need to add the declination from your magnetic bearing compass bearing to create the proper map bearing. Magnetic bearing + Declination = Map Bearing.

***VIRTUAL TRAVEL BUGS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THIS CACHE***
***Regular Travel bugs are welcome any time***

An ATV or MODIFIED high clearance vehicle is required because you will not be able to get your passenger car any further into the area than the Galuchie Park (Meadow) area. A stock jeep could do this if you know what you're doing and have a spotter, but there is a reason that this is a five star cache. You can certainly hike this but be prepared for a good nine mile round trip workout from where you'd have to park your car.

Before you begin the small climb to the scenic overlook you'll see trail 153 which makes a hard left (approx N40 29.041 W105 23.516), you will want to turn left to access the geocache. 153 also spurs left about 200' down the trail, keep right and you'll be on the right track.

The view from the reloacted cache is even better than the first location and well worth the trip so bring a lunch and your camera. This is one of those spots that you don't see everyday, and you have a clear view of Estes Park, a practically clear view to Wyoming and Kansas, and full digital signal on your cell phone.

When you arrive at the main coordinates/parking area (464105mE 4484288mN) project a map bearing (TN) of 26 degrees for approx 300 meters.
For further confirmation/triangulation of the cache container location project 188 degrees TN for approx 1180 meters from X9010; and 330 degrees TN for approx 615 meters from X9875.
Anyone needing topo maps with 500M UTM grid can feel free to contact myself via email. We'll figure out how to get you the maps.

 Hints

Big rock, Triangulation only gets you close, use your skills to find the cache hiding spot! Vicinity of 10,000 feet elevation, another hint "north side." By the Way, UTM is incredibly easy...moreso than LAT/LONG in my opinion.

Yes! Finally! After looking at this cache for years and one aborted attempt, I finally found a way to get there. My neighbor's Jeep didn't quite make it to the parking area (I had to walk the last 1.2 miles), but it was close enough. And the site didn't disappoint -- what spectacular views! From the eastern plains right down into Estes Park.

The coords were spot on, and the cache is in good shape (as you'd expect right after a mx log). I'm not quite sure it had enough pencils though, and I was surprised to see all that money. ;)

After all the time and effort it took to bag this one, I have to give it a favorite point. Thanks!

7-8-2017 cache maintenance run to check the trails for downed trees. someone had ONE HELLUVA day clearing over 100 blown down trees from the trail to get all the way back in here. on our way out we cleared the low hanging snags that were going to come down on their own (about 5 of them) so this cache should be good to go for the entire season now. And i'm happy cause I got to play with my chainsaw! haha!!

Memphis Mafia and I tried for this one today but were stumped by all the downed trees. I think we cleared about half a dozen, then my chainsaw lost a nut. We continued down the road until we hit the next obstacle and had just turned around when a guy in a very snazzy ATV came along and cleared maybe another 4-5 logs with his chainsaw. We followed him until we hit the next log, but then his saw wouldn't run, so we all gave up and went back. We were still about 1.5 miles from the parking coords.

We'll give this one another go in a month or two, after someone else has cleared the remaining logs. ;)

yes...another owner maintenance log!

Finally made it back to this cache on a beautiful day celebrating the 10th anniversary of this cache being in place! (got thwarted by high wind and downed trees last fall)

Thanks to everyone who has pushed through to find this. While not a "true" multi, you have to do one quick projection and bushwack to get it.

Sat on the rock for a bit and enjoyed the view. Come and get it!

Only the second "Found It" since 2009! This cache has been on my radar for some time but the September 2013 flood wiped out CR 43 and access to the area was shut down for quite some time. The area was reopened awhile ago but other caching objectives seemed to get in the way of going for this one. Today I decided I'd waited long enough and gave it a go. I drove up Storm Mtn Rd to Galuchie Park where I decided to park my truck. It was 42° and very windy. I donned my pack, did a "go to" to the cache coordinates, and headed up the trail. I thought I remember the trail being rougher than it was, I easily could have driven my stock crew cab Silverado up to the fork that leads to the peak. But being on foot allowed me to see more of the wonderful area.

It took me about 1 hr 30 min to reach the posted coordinates at the end of the trail. There I did my projection for the final coordinates and headed that direction. Once reaching the final GZ it took a little searching but the ammo can was soon in hand. I opened the log book to find RDAD's log (along with his traveling companions). Signed the log and then searched for that $100 bill that KingJr was planning to leave. No such luck! Shock

I then sat on the lee side of the rocks, ate a sandwich, and enjoyed the views. KingJR placed a really nice one here folks, you need to get off the couch and up the mountain to get it. Thanks KingJR, it's a well placed cache in the beautiful Colorado back country.

I didn't bring my notes and was using my phone for navigation. the phone wasn't working well enough. I may try again this summer. I don't have the proper map to use UTM any way.

Fun cache in a nice location. I was lucky as my calculations that I did a year ago were within 10 ft. Not many finds here, but I see the cache owner was here only a few days ago. Thanks for the great cache!

cache visit!! STILL NOBODY GOING FOR THE QUALITY...

all is well at the site, the sound of the air rushing into the 50 cal box never gets old.

maybe stashing $100 in the cache will peak people's interest?

cache on!
