Back in 2015, Chuppalloop and I had only been dating for a few months when we discovered the hobby of geocaching. What started as a boredom buster activity, quickly turned into a full-on obsession. We refused to cache alone, vowing to only cache when the other could tag along. Now, 5 years later, as we celebrate one year of marriage, we've decided that it was finally time to create our first hide, and we thought what would be better than placing a hide to commemorate the place that we said "I do" - the historic McCreery House. Enjoy! P.S. We have permission from the owner to place this geocache. Please be respectful and courteous of the surrounding area, and do not tread on or rip up any landscaping or foliage.

History of the House:
William H. McCreery originally built the house. He was born in the Ligonier Valley, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania on November 17, 1839. He attended Military school in Pennsylvania and became ordained as a Presbyterian Minister. In 1870 he married his first wife Martha Marshall. In 1874 they came to Colorado seeking to improve his health and a chance to start a church of his faith in the wilderness. Mr. McCreery traveled up and down the eastern slope of the mountains looking for a place for a second congregation of the United Presbyterian Church. He was invited to Alexander Canyon (now Big Thompson Canyon) and decided that this is where he wanted to begin his work.

The McCreery house was built sometime between 1888 and 1901, it appeared on the Larimer County assessor records in 1901. The Larimer County Clerk and Recorder office in Fort Collins has the original Warranty Deed of purchasing the land dated May 14, 1888.

In 1918 Mr. and Mrs. Charles Quick and family moved into the house and boarded William McCreery for their rent. The house was filled with Mr. McCreery's second wife's furnishings and her own hand-painted china. It was considered a showplace of Loveland. Today it is owned and operated by Julie Marsh who maintains the original historic charm of the home.

Thank you artguru20@gmail.com for the hide. This is 9406 for us as we wander around caching as a family.

This cache has a GREAT story, owner permission and offers a history lesson as well. I can’t think of a better way to hide a cache! We even chatted with the owner for a bit and learned even more about the location. Thanks so much for bringing us here! Well deserving of a favorite point from the Mafia!

Found it. This cache is unusual in its placement. The cache is a big box in a big compartment. Although Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan made several movies together, only one makes immediate sense when you arrive at the home. Nice cache with lots of loot. Signed the log and replaced the cache. Thanks artguru20@gmail.com & chuppalloop for the cache.

We got up early to make it to the coffee event At LCC, since the last event we attended before everything got crazy was back in March. After the event we headed out on a caching adventure up to Fort Collins and Wellington cleaning up some of the new caches recently published. Very nice hide, SL,TNLN,TFTC

Had to admire the green roses when we drove up. Green beauties! Reminds me of Ireland glad I was there in January. The cache is nicely done, I said to Sheepherder I think it’s there, sure enough it was. Glad it’s in a water tight container because it was wet. Insides were drive. Thanks!
