Cache located in a wind shelter on a high ridge with beautiful views

This cache is located in a rock shelter that will provide a great place for a rest stop to get out of the winds between Ptarmigan Peak and Horseshoe Peak.

Ptarmigan Peak (which has another cache) can be reached easily by hike NE from Weston Pass (take highway five from the 285 near Fairplay to get to Weston Pass). The road from this side of Weston pass does not currently require a high clearance or a 4x4 vehicle.

This cache is located under some rocks and is visible from the inside of the obvious rock shelter if viewed at the right angle. Please replace the cache so that plenty of rocks on are on it but so it can still be seen.

This should have been a fairly easy find but I made it harder than necessary. There are a lot of potential hiding spots and it was a higher in the rocks than I thought based on the hint. I finally found it after moving a bunch of rocks. After I put them all back it took a spoiler photo that I would be happy to send to the CO. With that done Horseshoe Mt was calling. I couldn't pass up a centennial 13er on a beautiful day. TFTC

Nice hide on our way up to Horseshoe Mountain. It's strange to see a cabin on top off a Centennial 13er.

Beautiful day for a walk along the ridge - thanks for the hide!

Spent the night in the car so I could get an early start and glad that I did. That is one heck of a hike!
I didn't expect all the ups and downs and rocks, rocks, rocks. Difficult without a designated trail too. Picked up Sport's Ptarmigan on the way.
Found the cache right away in good shape. TFTC!

I can't tell you how much ernie66 and I appreciated this shelter today. That has to be the highest wind I've ever hiked in. But at least we found it! The entire hike, up to Ptarmigan Peak and over to Sport's Shelter is beautiful and would have been a lot more enjoyable if it weren't for the fact that my eyelids were continually being blown shut. Thank you for bringing us up there.
