Early settlers might endure some trying hardships while making a home in South Park, but they were seldom willing to let lack of education for their children be one of them. They set up schools wherever they could and often shared the cost of paying a teacher. In Tarryall (historically known as Puma City) townspeople built this one-room school and even added the “teacherage” - the little house behind the school - to provide a place for the teacher to live. Children of all ages shared the one-room school and helped with the chores such as carrying in wood for the fire, sweeping the floor, and cleaning the blackboard.

The Tarryall School is located just off County Road 77 (Tarryall Road) and there is a parking area in front of the school. Both the school and the teacherage are locked except for events, but feel free to stroll around the grounds and peek in the windows of the teacherage.
